yes it is a called a balun-- for a standard dipole i would use a 4:1 current balun- depending on what band you are going to cut you wire for- you might want to build a OCF dipole- "off center fed " for a 80m it would be a total length of 136' 90 feet one side and 46 on other.. this here should...
LOOK AT MAKING A CAROLINA WINDOM OR A LOOP.. THOSE TWO ARE VERY GOOD WIRE ANTENNAS, ALSO YOU CAN DO A DOUBLE END ZEP THOSE AR ALSO VERY EFFECTIVE AND WITH THAT MUCH ROOM YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO STRING UP SOME PRETTY DECENT SIZE ANTENNAS..
Station #1– FT2000 hooked to a ameriton 811h to a 80 meter windom, Mic. is a AudioTechnica ATR20 with a BY-2 Bencher paddles.. Use this for mostly CW and bpsk31 & rtty..
Station #2 is a Kenwood TS 2000 hooked to a tri-band rotatable dipole "yes a driving element off a 3 element 10/15/20...
i ahve the ts 2000 an it work very well on vhf/uhf.. i lik eit cause you have 100 watts on 2 meters which i do alot of ssb.. also it does fine on hf also but for me it did not have the correct filtering for cw. on phone it works well, i like the compact size of the rig, the auto tuner does...
well after all this discusion i have one and its on the tower i see less rx then my windom which is 10ft lower then this antenna and also i see hardley any directivity out of this antenna. as many know i run cw 99.9% of time and on the windom for instance i get an s9 "599" and on this antenna...
i used one at HRO an was no that impressed with it. i personally don't care for the meter i like the old needle.. lol .. an does not have a dual rx on.. have to manuel switch over to vfo a/b? same with the 950.. i went out an bought the ft 2000 which if u can afford its price tag it is the way...
i run the opek htv400b an it performs very well on all bands.. it is a knock off of the outbacker. cover 80 threw 70cm. have never used it on vhf/uhf but does a fb job on 20m.
well if u are gonna run a base i would go with a kenwood 2000 an build ur self a 80m windom. that there u can cover 80 thru 6 meters if built right. and the one thing i suggest ids that even tho they dropped the code still learn it; it is a fun mode an u can talk around the world on 4 watts...
