    Question on the ANYTONE 6666

I had already put a 6-pin plug on my Turner, wired for a Magnum 1. I plugged it in to the AT-6666 and it was correct. Crank the gain at the mic, turn the mic gain in the radio down. Works great.

    Battery for AnyTone 398UV

It's not a clone. It's a TERMN-8R battery from AnyToneTech. The 398UV is an uncommon radio in the US, but is basically a TERMN-8R.

    Battery for AnyTone 398UV

I don't know why I started this in the FRS category! But the good news is that the 398UV is almost exactly a TERMN-8R. I bought a TERMN-8R battery, and it's the same.

    Question on the ANYTONE 6666

I'm running an old Turner Super Sidekick on my 6666, and it sounds phenomenal. I didn't remove a part or do any mods.

There are GMRS repeaters and you're allowed 50w in a mobile or base.

    Battery for AnyTone 398UV

I just scored a killer deal on an AnyTone 398UV hand-held. I have not been able to find a spare QB-35L battery. Anybody know of a source with some in stock? I have a feeling they are a China shortage, and won't be back in stock for quite some time.

    Anytone AT-5555 or AT-6666

My 6666 runs circles around the Magnum 1 it replaced in all aspects. My meters show strong forward swing on AM, and the group I always talk to says it sounds much better.

    Magnum

I should have got the AT-6666. It would be my fourth AnyTone radio; 3 have worked flawlessly for years. I was seduced by the Magnum 1's wild look and glowing beauty, which has now gone! My Magnum 1 has lived a life of luxury as a base station since new. No good reason for the backlight to fail...

I just noticed the backlight on my Magnum 1 has gone belly-up.

    Soldering iron suggestions?

Yes. I have tips everywhere from tiny SMT use all the way up to big spades that easily do coax connectors.

    Soldering iron suggestions?

No shwag, though! I find it strange how many hams have never even heard of Hakko, Metcal, or JBC.

    Soldering iron suggestions?

I got around $1200 worth of stuff if it was new. Most of the included tip selection was unopened from the package. Everything else had barely been used at all. $350, an uncommon eBay gamble that I actually won!

    Soldering iron suggestions?

My career in electronics spoiled me with Metcal & JBC soldering irons. I have never tried a Hakko. After decades of using consumer-grade garbage soldering irons at home, I finally broke down and got a sweet deal on a nearly-new Metcal MX500 on eBay. Should have done that a long time ago!

    My Duck-Pluckin' Radio Desk

Thanks! The ancient Turner Super Sidekick on the Magnum 1 is quite a contrast, and gets great audio reports.

    Solder. Most popular.

I worked for many years in solder process in the electronics industry. I understand and agree with the environmental impact of poisonous lead in high volume manufacturing. I was right in the thick of it when the world went lead-free. It was horrible to try to get that stuff to adhere, and...
