Ok i took took the amp to a fellow hams and we replaced the diodes and tested the caps they good but we discovered the wire leaving the caps goes to no where, take a look at the pic is there a wire missing , we applied 80 volts ac current and heard hum and the new diodes started to get hot, so...

wow ok nice explanation, i guess that explains the hum and no output, ok if the tubes are ok and i put the new diodes in, then it still dont work whats next ? could i have burned up something else ? hope it passes the next "smoke test" lol

i love how you put things in realistic perspectives, i am waiting on my diodes and going to test the tubes this week , so with the diodes broke on that one side is that dumping the power into a ground and bogging it down ? just trying to understand the purpose of the diodes and what happens when...

ya you have a point there, the new 2x8 transister hg2879 is 1300 bucks and does 2500 watts if you drive it hard, but run 1500 watts easy all day all night on legal amatuer bands

yes they did it was a 4 tube driving 8 i bought one couple years ago it arrived doa , guy refunded my money wish it would have worked, i would like to find a D&A 10 tube that works good

ok so i see 2 of those old ones connected together in 4 spots, so you are saying take out the 2 old ones in each spot and just put one of those 1N5408 ? so i need to buy 4 of the new ones right, thank you much for your expert help, i am lost on this

i was looking and found a lose part, it fell off when i touched it, would this cause my problem ??? i circled it in red on the screen shot, it is black with blue circle aroud it says c170 my guess someone threw the box and broke this part loose

this was not a old piece laying around, the guy that sold it to me was using it everyday i bought it he shipped it and i hooked it up , so evidently someone threw the dam box and bumped it hard and broke it , is this what the filtered capacitor looks like

i just got it and hooked it up and when i key it up the green light dims and it humms loud and puts no power out and i can smell something hot, i know i put the tubes in it ok and none look broke on shipping, the whole thing looks ok dont see anything lose underneath i am so disappointed ,

yes i already have a picture of it, that web site dont help at all, still need info on it, like what are the original tubes that it was made with and what are the safe substitutes and any other good advice for it.
