    Oxidation Removal -- Help

THANKS ALL for the good replys. I looked for Deoxit at Radio Scrap but our store did not have any. Heres what I did: 1. Took a lot of photos so I was sure to get things wired back correctly 2. I removed the switch from the project radio, in this case a Tram D201. Using a nail clippers to cut...

    Oxidation Removal -- Help

What is the best way to remove the oxidation on the silver contact selector switches that are found in Tram and Browning radios? The contacts turn a ugly black and contact cleaner don't seem to do the trick. Also is there an easy way to desolder the wires that attach to these switches? The...

    Buying An Astroplane

Here you go. The fiberglass rod could be .25" in diameter. This may be able to be picked up at a local hardware store along with a piece of thin stainless. The sheet stainless pieces should be bent as per the photos, this is to capture the square nut. The two smaller clamps are missing the...

    Buying An Astroplane

I will get you the info for the missing parts that you need. The down tubes should start out being straight. That is with the bottom loop not attached. The loop and the spreader bar give the down tubes the correct curve. The top element should also be straight. I see yours is somewhat bent.

    Buying An Astroplane

The braket clamps double as the tube splice clamp for the down tube.

    AstroPlane up and Testing

I was sidetracked with a project trouble shooting computer problems on my 1990 Reatta. What a pain in the butt, and glad thats over. I should be getting back on track with antennas shortly. The Astroplane is next. I'll keep you posted.

    What is it?

Can anyone tell me what this is? Other than a small amp. No ID on it at all.

Nice clean work. Looks like a great project.

    AstroPlane up and Testing

I was curious to see if the SWR would change when the curve/bend of the lower elements was changed so I moved the spreader brace that is located about half way down the legs and got these results. The first table is the antenna before starting and the second is the readings after moving the...

    AstroPlane up and Testing

Marconi, I did not see any form of bossy in your replys. Although we never met or will never meet face to face, I view everyone here as a friend unless they tell me otherwise. A lot of times the spirt and/or meaning of the measage gets twisted when communicating with words only. If we all...

Thanks. Also see my other post today about the top hat.

    AstroPlane up and Testing

I need to make sure that I am explaining the top hat diferences correctly. the length of the horizontal rods are the same as the OEM 23" tip to tip, only the diameter of the rods is different. The OEM being 1/8" and the copy being 1/4". The estimated length comes in for the top element. As shown...

    AstroPlane up and Testing

Did the additional testing with my copy of the Astroplane verses The Original Equipment of Manufacture Three plots were made as follows: 1) AP OEM This is the factory designed stock antenna SWR curve as indicated by the blue line on the chart. 2) AP COPY 5/8 R This is my original copy...

    AstroPlane up and Testing

How would a person go about testing the radiation pattern? I see avanti used a scaled down antenna at a higher frequency for that test.

    AstroPlane up and Testing

Let me try and clear up the reason why my mast is on the inside of the bend in the main bracket. It is just because at the time I made it I was thinking that it should be that way to be optimum due to being more symmetrical, centering everything around the mast and on the mast centerline. I used...

    AstroPlane up and Testing

That knockoff that you have is interesting in the way that the mast is on the other side of the main bracket from my copy. I was thinking that the mast should be on the same center line as the lower elements when viewed from the top. This may have something to do with the Z of the antenna...

    AstroPlane up and Testing

A few more photos, Let me know if you need any more. Maybe I could just send it to you to take a close look if you like. My goal is to make a working copy with a beefier design, then move on to the Astrobeam. The beam is what I like but better undersatnding the omni is a good start. Much of the...

    AstroPlane up and Testing

Yes again it was a typo the length is 30’ 9”. I don’t quite understand it but blaming old age will have to do. Normally I am good with accuracy but now days I just can’t seem to get it straight. Oh well on with life. When I started doing the measurements in earlier post I was basing them on set...
