Nah. I got any one of four HF rigs to play with if I wanna. But this sounds interesting for someone with little equipment to play with.as long as there is a valid control operator supervising the thing.

Probably so. FCC went after one of the better knwon dealers a few years back and LOST. I cannot remember who it was or what the actual rules violations but FCC got clobbered.

I misunderstood what you said you did. But even so, your SWR is too high. You will not be able to do anything about it since it is figerglass. And the coax length may be a factor in this. Get another antenna.

Yes, the antenna must be tuned so that the maximum possible signal is ging out. You don't have a tuned antenna. The SWR meter is usded to tune it. A high SWR WILL reduce your output power. It should be much lower, around 1.5 is a good SWR
You tune the antenna by moving the antenna whip up...
Splizing coax cable. in general, isn't a good idea. And have you tuned your antrenna? You may get lucky simply by tuning the antenna but I don't think the splice you made wil give you any decent performence. I'd go buy a new antenna and tune it.

here are companies that do make various types of antenna mounts not usually seen in stores. Do a google search on 'antenna mounts' and see what pops up.

Stupid is as stupid does.
I suppose the lawyers in NJ don't have enough business, so the legislator is going to help them out by creating another idiotic law.
It would be interesting to see how this one goes.

It "LOOKS" neat and that's all I can give it. Obiously, the whole setup is idiotic. No possible good ground and the thing doesn't look like it radiates to anything but the truck. Antennas are too close together to do any good even if they actually are getting RF from the coax. Dumb. Very dumb.

Perhaps you do, but that is still not a cheap price for someone with just a simple CB station to pay. And it's not flexable enough to use with a rotor and beam.
RG-213 or even plain old RG-8 is more appropriate.
I paod a bit less for my 500 feet of 9913 than that cost for 100 feet. (I...
On HF, RG8 and RG213 exibit close comparisons. RG213, though, is more flexable and has a lower loss than RG8 on long runs but it isn't much. My stationary cables are Belden 9913. HF cables going to rotators are RG213. The sole reason for 9913 is that I got 500 feet of it very cheaply. :D

Well, I suppose if you're comfortable with the antenna setup, that's good. The mount on the bumper with the short antenna would work okay but a long whip on that bumper will be very, very close to excellent. But again, it'll work where you have it if you can beat the bolts coming loose from...
Whew! You had me going for a while, there.
If you are getting five mile ranges or over, you're doing fine. Individual radios and their antenna systems will alwayas show differences and a guy who hears you and you don't heare him is nothing unusual at the edge of range and it could be the...
Did you say you have 2 radios on that antenna? Don't! you will damage one or both rdios! If you radios at the same time you need two antennas. But the transmit radio will clobber the second radio and you'll not be able to hear anything on the other radio.
There is a book called "Basic Radio"...
