CDX CLUB?

I definitely enjoyed those dx contests in the past. The solar minimum has kept me off the air for more than a few years now. Not much of a local talker, but sure love to shoot dx. Hopefully conditions pick up soon ....I need to burn some of the dust off my radio equipment..... Patiently waiting...

Has the economy affected your hobby?

I've sold most of the equipment I don't use much. I'm keeping all the stuff I know I would regret selling and would have to buy again. I sold one of my Kenwood TS850's that I hated to see go, but realized I only need one. Most of my extra mics that I didn't use often are gone too.

    Maverick 250 No Output

I have one, when the tubes went bad I had absolutely no output. I replaced the tubes and haven't had a problem since. I also have a Phantom 10 tuber that did the same thing, but with that amplifier the tubes were good. I haven't gotten around to messing with it to see what else could have been...

    CDX-018

Hey 018, Just wanted to let you know that you were coming in very loud, but there was noise, like a buzzing sound whenever you key up. sounded like your amp or radio just wasn't getting enough power. Hope to talk to you again soon on the band. Like I mentioned earlier, seems like we're the...

    CDX July contest

Hey Wayne, I know exactly how you feel that you will be on vacation with people that are not into radio. Last month I did the Vacation thing on Sanibel Island with all the inlaws during the June CDX contest. Not one person had a single interest in radio. Needless to say I wasn't able...

astatic 600 meters are they any good

I've been using the Astatic 600 for a few years now. It seems to have the same accuracy as my old ParaDynamics PDC 550. The meter does seem a little tight. I mostly like the big meters with 3 readings so that you can watch different things at the same time.

    ESSB

I've been using ESSB for about 2 1/2 to 3 years now, even during the CDX contests. I run a Kenwood TS850 w/DSP 100 and W2IHY 8band eq. I didn't open the equipment up and make the mods that KA0KA made, but I do have my unit setup to transmit using 2.4khz, 4.5khz or 6.0khz of bandwith. I believe...

    cdx 311

CDX-152, I apologize for taking over a month to respond, I don't have myself in the habit of checking this section yet. Usually try to check the CDX section as much as possible, life responsiblities permitting. It was a pleasure making contact with you with that great sounding station. You were...

    HeathKit sb220

I noticed Will Matney the builder of the Hot Foot Keyer is on the forum's blacklist.... I have a bunch of e-mails from him since I was in the market for something two years ago. I eventually changed my mind and went with the amateur radio. If there is a different or new builder of the Hot Foot...

    HeathKit sb220

You can buy a foot keyer to key the amplifier. You can find them on e-bay sometimes for about $20.00. Heil Sound www.heilsound.com also sells a foot keyer that will work. I've heard that some people will add a relay inside their transceiver to key the amp. The easiest way is to use the amp with...

    BAD TVI with thunderbolt 305

Most computer speakers are un-shielded, you would have to be lucky not to get "bleedover" no matter what you do. I just turn my speakers off when transmitting, also warn the neighbors before a CDX DX contest.

I agree with the bird. They are built to last!!!! Expensive, but you will never have to replace it. I use the Bird Termaline 8251. It is rated for 1kw, but can handle much more I'm sure!! Bird---------Get a Bird.
Edited by: <A...

    Kenwood TS-2000

Depends if u need portability or not. The TS-2000 would probably cost twice as much. Depends on how much u want to spend I'm sure. If u mostly want to work HF, you would probably be better off with the Kenwood, receive would probably be more sensitive. Eham's reviews section may help u make your...

    Yaesu 757

I've only heard of the 747sx which was a qrp 10watt hf transceiver. Perhaps the 757sx was a very limited production qrp model. Triple J

    radio recommendation

I agree with the Wilson 1000 Magnetic mount. Probably the only antenna you'll ever need. I ran mine for several years with the stock coax and never had a problem. I later changed the coax to RG8X, even though it probably wasn't necessary. Great performance, looks good, can change from vehicle...
