FCC PLANS TO DROP THE BAN

One more step down the road to 100 years from now when TV will be long forgotten history. (Nielsen has TV viewership down two years running btw . . . ) I already know many folks who don't regularly watch TV, and in some cases don't have TV in their homes.

looking for info for a friend

If he already has a radio it will be matter of looking up the radio and finding out from the manufacturer literature whether it supports computer control, and then what hardware and software is required to make it happen. If he is starting from scratch with no existing radio then research SDR...

    Amazing and cheap SDR receiver.

I installed it but still can't get it to see the stick. The interface doesn't look as nice as SDR console but SDR console is a little frustrating in terms of laying out the windows. Both are nicer than SDR# which is very basic. Also, none seem to have scan capabilities which I would...

    Amazing and cheap SDR receiver.

V2 of SDR console is nicer than SDR sharp. If you follow directions in post 29 (thanks vo1ks) and make sure those three DLLs are in the right directory, the NooElec dongle works fine with SDR console.

    Amazing and cheap SDR receiver.

I got stick installed and working, getting that done with the cryptic information available was not straight forward. I am receiving, but very little given the poor antenna. I am waiting for a few cables to come so I can hook up the Ham it up and external antenna – I’ll report back in a few...

    Got the Uniden 980 today!

Wireless mic is interesting - not a power mic so not really outstanding audio even with the gain turned all the way up. That said audio is clear and range is great. Not sure it'll sell for what it was intended for (mobile use) but as a base radio accessory it does the trick. If it had an...

    mosfet amps????

RM Italy makes them too. Some clean, others splatter boxes. Usually inexpensive, and may are overrated in terms of power output. Most like very low drive for long life. They work, if run right and serve a purpose.

    Got the Uniden 980 today!

I ordered the wireless mic based on the review - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B3QBRQQ/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 little pricey but interesting for use around the house.

Amp reduces gain when going from standby to operate

Response from Ameritron: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you have a QSK installed, the XMIT light on the amp stays on as long as the amplifier is in operate. It only puts out power when you key up the radio.

Amp reduces gain when going from standby to operate

UPDATE: Bulbs came today by postal mail - ugh - took a week plus. I replaced both bulbs/fuses (both tested open) - no more drop in receive so that seems to have done the trick. SWR is flat 1.0 and set to not key the amp through the LP-100A if it goes over 1.5 so I am not expecting to have to...

    DeltaForce and TxStar 250HD

From this page: Texas Star Export Feature Chart Looks like it makes max power at 20 watts. (I thought HD meant high drive for Texas star but two 2290s don't need high drive . . . . )

    Bird RF Watt Meter Questions

It was that kind of hocus pocus that made me go with an Ameritron. They have their issues, but I think the fundamental design is a step above the CB type amps. For instance - int he event there is a mismatch between the radio and the amp, there is an adjustment to dial in the SWR for the band...

Amp reduces gain when going from standby to operate

Just for posterity, from page iii (7 in the PDF) in the manual located here http://www.ameritron.com/pdffiles/AL-80B.pdf : 1. NEVER defeat the interlock. 2. NEVER remove the cover with the amplifier connected to the power line. 3. ALWAYS allow several minutes for the capacitors to discharge...

    So I have a 2995DX on the way . . . . which amp?

I'd be interested in seeing the schematic - currently using the Heil two stage pedal. Re power - yes agreed - I'll run it lower than that, probably at that 175dk/600pep level. Nice and clean. Manual says underloading isn't good either, supposedly worse than overloading so that seems like a good...

    So I have a 2995DX on the way . . . . which amp?

Just updating - I did go with the AL80BQ. 20 watt dead key in gives in the neighborhood of 200 or so out which is the max dead key recommended on AM by Ameritron. I did need to reduce mike gain as the radio swings like crazy and the grid protection board doesn't like that so much (trips out...
