    Full wave antennas for CB

Oh I agree with you on that point, making a 48' freestanding vertical antenna isn't easy or cheap, and it is a more difficult to make for the best performance. It can be made, as long as it is built well (I believe Zero Five actually sells 66' freestanding quarterwave verticals for the ham...

    Full wave antennas for CB

I disagree, if you have only 48' of aluminum, you're not going to make an antenna with more gain (or talk farther) than a .64 stacked over a .64 collinear 48' antenna. A full sized 3 element beam may be slightly better, but that would take more than 48 feet of aluminum, (more like 70' when...

Looking for advice on antenna setup

What about Mr. Coily antennas guys? Mr. Coily makes some of the best mobile antennas around! Very tough too!

    base station antenna

I don't need to bet, I did the actual comparison. The IMAX 2000 had about a needle whip more signal gain than the MACO. I can tell many are in love with Maco verticals, but the IMAX 2000 always had equal to higher signal strength at same heights using an A/B switch. This was tested at various...

very interesting photo.. Generally the european models come with AM/FM as a standard, but oddly no SSB.

why its important to have a quality cb radio?

The galaxys are generally louder, and a few more bells and whistles.. The export versions are stronger yet, but illegal to use in the US.

    COBRA 2000 GTL

The Cobra 2000 GTL was a legendary radio, and still one of the best "cb" base stations ever made.. It's always going to be a very valuable, sought after, and a collectors item. Granted the galaxy radios may have more power, but you can always run a kicker for that.. As far as receive, mods...

    Full wave antennas for CB

Hidef, you're actually short on your measurements, as you need to add a few feet back in, if making a finished product or anything practical. .64 at 27mhz is actually 22.6", with normal sized conductors, so for both .64 wavelength elements together, is 45' right there alone. The Big Hair...

    base station antenna

Maco and their gamma match sucks.. Imax 2000 shown by many to outperform the Maco groundplanes by .5db in gain or more.

    new 55 merlin base antenna

Moleculo, I'm not claiming they are adding horizontal polarization, but based on his findings on it's horizontal pattern, they are claiming the antenna is illustrating much more gain in the horizontal polarization aspect (based on his results). I'm not convinced of this either, but offered most...

    new 55 merlin base antenna

Marconi, I appreciate your well thought out response, and sounds like you are being neutral here. What is probably happening, is that the top hat is a little too long, in the sense that it's becoming part of an horizontal element. Perhaps the elements are at a large enough (or fraction...

Merlin Base Up Close and Personal

I don't agree on a top had or coil at all for any antenna, unless you "have" to shorten the antenna, and/or it's needed to bring the antennas impedance down to 50 ohms. In reality, the most efficient antenna are ones with "no" extra components. Adding components are used to help "shortened"...

    new 55 merlin base antenna

Mr. Clean, the antenna adds coils and a capacity hat to shorten a "quarter-wave" base antenna.. Why?? Adding components that aren't needed, only adds loss! This makes sense perhaps if running mobile where you need a smaller sized antenna, however it does nothing to improve gain. Actually...

    new 55 merlin base antenna

Big Hair Antennas have already became the first to make a collinear 11 meter base antenna a few year ago. It's about 48' tall total..

    new 55 merlin base antenna

If you understand antennas to at least some degree, you realize in a second that there isn't any benefit whatsoever with using a quarter wave antenna on 27mhz, and even if you have an HOA issue, and must use a quarter wave antenna, there is no benefit of adding a coil and/or top radials...

Cobra 2000 GTL and Texas Star 500V

I seen the same thing as 555. You only really want the radio to dead key little more than 1 watt, or it will choke your audio and swing. If you know something that can improve the swing in the 2000GTL, your amp will work best with a 1 watt dead key.

    RCI 2995DX Variable Power

Yeah, that is way off.. I had one, and was able to make it dead key 1-2 watts, and swing 150+! Their is a pot that is easy to find, that if I remember say AM power right on it. You need to adjust it way down. It will sound louder, if you can make it swing more as well, and you won't have to...

Please help me decide which 4 element beam to get

Hmm.. I would have to go with the Mosley. I have never been a big fan of Maco or Jogunn. Also, I would use a 4 element quad, versus a yagi (if you can find one). They use a wire shapped in a square, but have just a little bit more gain, and pick up less noise.
