Egg-zactly. A ground plane I built with #14 wire and a crappie pole was also extremely broad banded (which is in a thread somewhere on this forum). I attempted to have an informed conversation with one of the guys (maybe the same person) associated with this antenna a while back. Not even...
Most interesting... I wonder if the IF is broadbanded enough to switch in different xtals for different band segments? Has potential as a portable/mobile AFSK rig. I'm assuming LSB only?

Shoot, yeah!
I still use my old TS-520 now and then. It drifts a bit in the first 30 minutes (didn't drift at ALL when it was new), but it still does a great job.

Tame the dipole before building the quad. Quads present physical challenges that you may not want to mess with right now. I'd suggest using something besides an SO-239 in the center, but that can work OK if it's not subject to much stress.
Right, but if someone has been thinking about that particular call but just hasn't done anything about it seeing a discussion about it could motivate him/her to get going on it. Granted, the chances of that may be small but if that particular callsign is that important I wouldn't take any...
Yes-- don't post the callsign anywhere. If someone who has the appropriate class license wants it and gets it before you're ready there won't be anything you can do about it.

Heh, maybe that just means I rattled on too long.
This is pretty much what the Alpha Delta DXCC is, though the reviews I've seen of that antenna show only about a 65 KHz bandwidth on 75/80. I get about 160 KHz with this. As long as the upper end of 75 was all I wanted this antenna was fine...
I’ve seen lots of questions here and elsewhere about how to go about building and putting wire antennas in the air. For the most part they have been good questions, and we all had to start somewhere. Bear in mind there are many ways to skin this cat, but let me offer a low tech and low cost...
I bought one a year ago with the idea of having a vertical for 12-10 meters. The tuning is not quite broad enough to pull that off, but the VSWR is still around 2.5:1 in much of the 10m phone band. It hasn't seen much use, but with what little radio time I've had the past couple of weeks I've...
I have had very little time for radio, but will be listening for 10 AM tomorrow. The last time I was on 10 AM was with a Johnson Ranger and a Hallicrafters SX-111. I need to give this little Icom some AM experience on something besides 3885!

I took a short break from work this morning and monitored beacons for a few minutes-- went up into the phone band and picked up Corsica (a first) and an EA6. 10 is fun when it's open!
Rick
Thanks for the review!
I've been eyeing the LDG 600W autotuner for use with my old SB-200. I've found Martin Jue to be a nice man and have always enjoyed talking to his guys at hamfests.
To be honest though, I have had such problems with simple things such as power supplies and antenna...
Hey,
Since you can't tell the tone of someone from words on a screen and I didn't want to seem like I was running down the idea (I'm not), I didn't comment, but--
What are you after with full wave elements? Half wave end-fed elements I could understand (though center fed would be much...
I'll have to wait until Sunday to get back on the air, hopefully the bands will hold up. What's usually happened lately is when I finally do have time to get in the shack, everything folds up.
