Echolink help needed

i have just set up my account and all the fun jazz, i dont have an interface between the radio and computer nor a mic for the computer. cant i just type node numbers from my vx8r like dialing out on a telephone? how are hams doing this from mobile stations? how do i do it from my vx8r?
help please
 

If you don't have a mic for the computer or a interface
to link the radio to the computer. Then no go
I don't know the vx8r well. But i am pretty sure you will need a interface.
Looked into that my self for my vx5r and icom 2200.
any cheap mic for a computer will work.
and it was fun for a while.
Then i Got a 10 meter radio.
I did work on making a interface that let me use my HT mic on the computer

IVE FIGURED it out. with the vx8r all you have to do to enter the node numbers in is. press and hold the ptt button on a repeater freq that has echolink, while holding ptt dial the node numbers, they register as dtmf tones. its pretty cool. ic 7600 comming soon, upgrade date is april 11
