Galaxy DX 88HL vs Galaxy DX 99V, which is the winner and WHY?

I am only asking because I am planing to use one o these radios to build a base station with and I want to pick the winner out of the two radios.

Some people are trying to talk me into using the HR2510, but honestly Galaxy radios may drift (a little bit) but they have some pretty wide audio

I use a Galaxy 88 with 75' of BR-400 and an I-Max and I'm pretty happy with it.......I'd be happier with some others but this is working good here. I'd use a DX99 if the $ was right. Just my opinion.

HR2510 over those two any day for SSB.

For a AM only base: either one could sound better depending on what it has been done to it, what mike you run on it, etc.

99 is more sought after than the 88 if that tells you anything.

A lot of those particular used models floating around are so overtuned and hacked up these days that they sound terrible on the air.

The 99 was known for having the clearest and cleanest audio of any Galaxy. Not sure why but they do.

And the 99 has the big square meter in stead of the smaller one.

99 all the way. I've owned both.

ive owned both . theres absolutely NO difference performance wise both had
dual 1969 finals.however the 99 had the voice changer/robot board . and the
big square meter.i used the 88 in my mobile had good luck with it.i liked the 99
better in the house cause of the bigger meter.i find that a distraction when driving

I use a 88 now... dont like the 99 due to the large meter and the robot crap...

But my main choice IF you can still find one is the Galaxy Pluto, Best radio Galaxy made, non of the echo crap a simple band switch NO hi/lo button to change bands

I have one and WILL NOT let it go this time, would sell the 88 in a heart beat for another Lincoln/2510 though

    Some people like crap

Why would anyone not want a larger, easier to see & read meter?

Don't like the Robot effect ? Don't use it.

I have never heard anyone say anything good about the old Pluto. Nothing but bad news <proof>

To each his own... That is why some like the 99

I am NOT that old YET not to see the small meter and the BIG one on the 99 is FUGLY

Just dont get a radio with it EASY

Never a issue with any of mine I had... Dont let a Turn everything right and clip it HACK near it and you wont have problems

well it turns out that the 88, 99 both use the same main board, which means they should be equals

Not necessarily, Galaxy uses RCI boards, but there are some fairly significant differences in the 2 brands.

And the 99, being a V model, has the variable power control versus the 88 which has fixed settings.

True, they all had small things..or should I say features that some others did not, but the Basic Main boards were all the same, all built by RCI....add a few parts here, leave a few out in this model.
The Service Manual that Lou Franklin wrote for these radios is all the same with minor differences.
