So, after spending most of the day yesterday dismantling the inside of my mobile for a professional install of my FTM350AR, i have decided to move on to the next project. Ham radio deluxe and bsod. Every time i turn on hrd with in 20 sec or less my PC blue screens. than restarts! at one time it would Sync up just fine with my ic-7000. i am running vista basic.4gb memory, 64bit 2tb hd. i didn't have this problem before and didn't change or update anything until now. I have tried older versions and new "beta" versions all with the same results!

From what i have read with computers is if your running a load of USB devices it can cause your PC to BSOD. i am running only 3 items, WIFI,ICOM,Bluetooth. i read to uninstall each driver and install each one, one at a time. I tried that and i am still getting the same results.

    Is it possible the
"Made in China" cable purchased for $8.99 is causing this? could it be the driver included with the cable? I'm currently stuck at a stale mate with this problem. If you have a Solution please provide it.

I would delete and reinstall drivers first. If this doesn't work, try an earlier restore point. It's likely an hardware issue prob

I like to keep copies of various partitions in case I need to reinstall a fresh image. I use Acronis True Image, but Clonezilla works and is FREE.

Vista is not a friendly environment anyways. The only time I get a stable Vista OS, is by avoiding windows updates altogether. But, you'll need the service pack for proper USB support.

I've been bit by the same thing, it seems that it's not as uncommon as it could be. Not being a programmer I have no idea what the 'problem' could be with this new/latest edition, but it definitely has one. I'm not a huge fan of HRD so it's 'loss' isn't a biggy for me. I can certainly see where it could be for others. I can understand why the original author gave it up, it's got to be a lot of trouble, any "do everything" program is always a PITA.

Thre are some programs that "prefer" to be located outside of the Program folder. I know that is the case with the Davis VantageVue Weatherlink program that interfaces with the data logger hooked up to my computer with a USB/Serial adapter. The program will appear to work for a few minutes, then a Blue Screen.

The location of the program may not always be the problem, but relocating it might be worth a try.

The next time you get the BSOD, take a look at the lines of the message toward the top. There should be the name of a driver that has crashed, usually a file ending with .VXD. Tell us what that is because that will tell you where the problem is.

It's your usb-serial adapter driver causing it. Do you know how to look for an update?

I bought the cable from china on eBay for $8.99 with free shipping. It came with a mini disk that has the driver , HRD, and a few other programs. The only item I installed was the driver. I will remove it. Should I let windows find the driver?

Right click on "My Computer", hit "manage" and then go down to the drivers section. Look for the serial port that HRD is using and look at the driver name and version. Chances are good that you can just hit the update driver button and let windows see if there is a new one.

Did you plug the USB device in the computer before or after installing the driver? XP and Vista likes the driver before detecting the device.

U have access to another computer to try everything out?
