Was just in my local T/A and noticed a new Astatic 636L on the shelf. This model is a normal 636L, but it has a new matte black rubberized coating on it. First one I have seen.
Can't tell you how much Chinese made "rubberized" or rubber "armored" stuff I have where after some time, that chit turns to nasty sticky glue that never sets up. A real mess to handle as the oil out-gasses. I avoid the "rubberized" stuff now.
I like the Astatic 636L-WG. That has a burl Wood Grain pattern on it. I don't see them offered anymore.
honestly, the 636 has sounded muddy in every application I have ever heard it. An old telex turner rk-56 blows it out on every level. It is a plus that you can buy it new, but it isn't that hard to find a good 56. Unless that burl gives you a woody i guess
