Found this radio for sale at westcoastmall.net..
The RG99 hasn't been made in a long time as far as I know. That was a mid-90's model that had 2 siblings, the RG33 and RG66. Was the unti advertised as new or used?
It says new...
They show the RG-33 in stock,
3 in stock
and the RG-99 in stock
As DTB has said, They stopped making them a while ago, The RG-33 Had dual audio Transistors in push/pull if I remember right. They must have had some stashed somewere??
Yeah kinda neat looking!!!
easy mod for 11 metres?.............
If I remember correctly, it used dual audio chips and transformer modulation. It packed one HECK of a modulation punch!
It is the best High level Modulated Radio I seen RCI build even beats the one time SuperStar 3000's and they would rock and roll.
I had a Jackson and Grant back in the day. I'm thinking of getting one of these but I can't seem to find any info about converting it to 11. Can anyone here help? Thanks
It uses a 6900 series PCB. Same as the 148fgtldx+, connex 4800 and a bunch of other export units!. In my opinion, this PCB is far better than the 3600 series
I agree dxhound it wasn't bad at all for what it was. It's a shame they didn't build them but for couple years.
i had 2 rg 33`s new in boxes .the conversion was easy .but i actually thought these were lacking in modulation if you ask me .i tuned both of them and the modulation was not great.a cobra 25 or 29 would blast it out the water.i sold them both ....whats that tell ya?wasnt satisfied.not alot of info available on these as well.do some hard thinking befor you buy one .the echo was pretty nice on it .mine had a heatsink but was single final ..go figure.
had a heatsink but was single final ..go figure ? Cooler is cooler my friend. plus could have been modded for bigger finals if need be. (MOSFETS) More then likely one of those cases where the radio was better suited for SSB then it was AM concerning audio , Lord knows I've had my share of those types of radios. Reminds my of the Clear channel 3300 I had , maybe the best SSB'er I ever owned , but AM audio was nothing to talk about )-: (hear that is)
There is a ton of info on these pcb's! even on cbtricks. Just look at any rig with the 6900 ept
Ranger RG-99 11 meter conversion
I checked CBtricks but didn't find any info on the 11 meter conversion. If anyone has any info I would greatly appreciate it. This is the unit I ordered, http://www.westcoastmall.net/rg99-amateur-transceiver-p-1831.html
