Hey guys! I just got off from work and turned my Galaxy DX-959 on to warm it up. After a few moments I heard it start to make strange sounds. The radio was showing that it was on 26.615 MHz with the freq counter going up and down in frequency close to that frequency. The lo/norm/hi switch had no effect on changing the frequency. I took the speaker cover off and unplugged the Viagra board from the radio and returned the jumpers to their original position ala' cbtricks info. The radio is operating normally now in the forty channel unmodified mode. I'd expect to get more than one month out of something likr this. My question is, does anybody know what to do with the Viagra board once it starts goofing up? P.S. I. Thought about buying a new Viagra board from DTB. :headbang

Plus,DTB has the radio freq adjusted to the Viagra board so it may very well have to go back to him.

    Two wires.

Does it skip some feeds like the Viagra board does?

I have modded a few 959 (interpret as I have lost count of how many).

I use the LESSCOMM board for freq mods.

I have had one modd that did exactly as what you are describing. I had to send the board back to LESSCOMM to get the chip re-programmed.

Your viagra board if it uses chips for the freq mod may have lost it's programming.

Just for your information; To me that appears to be a symptom of a PLL circuit that has become 'UNLOCKED'
The adjustment for this circuit might be just on the ragged edge of its range and a small tweak adjustment could cure this problem.

Well I unplugged the Viagra board from the radio and returned the radio's jumper back to it's original position. The radio is functioning normaly now. I don't know anything about the Viagra board. Is there something I can do to the Viagra board other than replacing it?

Are those boards plug n' play? I thought you needed to realign the radio after you installed one.

    I've never messed with one.

    Plug and play

No,they're not. The radio has to be realigned after installing one. I took my out of the circuit loop and the radio is functioning normally again. However the frequency is a half of a kilo cycle off but not so far as to center the frequency on the channel.

I got a email reply from Star Electronics and Communications about my failed board. In it he says:"I do not have a warranty on them. You would have to contact Ranger Radio warrenty support they are the 1 making them. To give you a heads up the viagra boards we've been getting in we had no problems with. But the galaxy 959 and 2547 have had have a resistor changed on the board to make the viagra board work correctly. The voltage to the clarifier circuit is too low."

Just talked with the Galaxy tech about the Viagra board and what James Brown over at Star Electronics and Communications said to me about the 959's and the 2547's needing a resistor changed out to make the Viagra board run right. There's something about the clarifier voltage oh well.

    Change out one single resistor?
What are you waiting on there?
