Viagra blue dot 'b' board problems

A simple replugging in fixed the display light problem. No problem putting the knobs back on. The pot shafts are orientated so that if you center all the knobs when you take them off,the shaft spline slots are horizontal.

Here's why the Talkback switch wiggles on the 959. The shaft hasn't enough spline on it. Perhaps a bushing if sorts can be made to go on the shaft. Just remember to leave enough shaft bare for pushing the talkback on and off.
Note: On another forum this problem was fixed by using superglue on it.

It's the farthest shaft in the pic.

Correction. The shaft itself wobbles
Perhaps some superglue in the shaft bushing will keep it from wobbling

Meter flicker fix

Here's what was done to keep the meter light from dimming/flickering especially on SSB. Note the red insulated jumper wire.

This is quoting James in a email:

I do not have a warranty on them. You would have to contact Ranger Radio warrenty support they are the 1 making them. To give you a heads up the viagra boards we've been getting in we had no problems with. But the galaxy 959 and 2547 have had have a resistor changed on the board to make the viagra board work correctly. The voltage to the clarifier circuit is too low.

And this. I got R133 bypassed altogether. I checked on R133's value again and it's a 47ohm resistor.

Update:

I got an email reply from DTB about R133. Here's the recommended fix. ...going down to a 22-ohm 1/2 watt resistor, or maybe as low as 10 ohms, but I doubt your fix will actually lead to any problems. The resistor is there to guard against shorts that might develop in the unit.

Update

Turned my Galaxy DX-959 on just a few moments ago and it's not displaying the right frequency again. I thought I fixed that problem when I bypassed R133. I might just send the radio to DTB and let him diagnose the problem and let him fix it even if it takes another Viagra board or LesCom. On the bright side I have plenty of back up radios to choose from. For tonight I hooked up the Radio Shack TRC-443(circa 1996) almost NOS/NIB I bought off Ebay and had DTB tune. It's an audio monster in it's own right with my Road Devil plugged in. I have to keep the RD's volume at halfway. :headbang

Turned my 959 on after a couple of days and it's working again. I think that cutting on the power supply and turning on my 959 and talking on it briefly and then shutting it down must lock up the Viagra board.
