Viagra blue dot 'b' board problems

Turned my 959 on after a couple of days and it's working again. I think that cutting on the power supply and turning on my 959 and talking on it briefly and then shutting it down must lock up the Viagra board.

 you sure????

Might want to look at the solder joints on that viagra board.

Ok.
It didn't run back and forth on the frequency it usually goes to in that state(26.556mhz) since I've bypassed R133. I did check it with my MFJ-886 which showed it cycling in KC's. Which particular area on the Viagra board should I pay attention to?
On another note, the LesCom L3S-3B kit I got from LesCom is a plug and play especially for the 959 along with a 10 KC switch to get those 'A' channels.

Les Comm is a great board, but it is not plug and play, the radio will need a full alignment of the PLL sections as well as centering up the clarifier.

Do not confuse plug in modules that require alignment with the term plug and play.

I'm trying to figure out the two wires that have a female two prong connecter plug. I'm guessing that this is the power and ground wire. Don't know where the 1 kc switch leads are to be solder onto the LesCom board. I talked DTB about substituting the S/RF,CAL,SWR function for low/normal/high channel switching. It's a three position rotary switch and substituting the roger beep function for the 10 kc up function. He suggested the easy route in just mounting the channel band switch and the 10 kc switch on the radio. There's not enough info about Lester's L3S-3B for a novice to make heads or tails about how to wire this thing in but for a competent tech like DTB it would represent no problem.
Yes I'm aware that the radio would have to be realigned.
If I can order a on/off volume switch then I can replace the talkback pot have be able to switch the talkback off.

I want to be able to switch on/off the talkback as well.

Somebody smell smoke?

Noooooo!
I'm not about to do something without finding out first what I need to know. I've worked on $3000 car stereo installs enough to know that you don't hook things up wrong and not expect smoke. I was just thinking about me installing the LesCom board and then send it to DTB to dial it in. I'm asking questions. One thing i do want to do is buy another on/off volume pot for this radio and change out the talkback pot so that I can switch off the talkback.

Once you let out the smoke, it can't be put back in. It's gone forever.

I had an electrician tell me that when he first got onto a ship that was all 220v with converters everywhere for the stupid Americans.

Yeah, but it's going in a brand new Ranger TRE-936ffc which is similar to a 959 but instead of a slider switch it has a push button to switch the ANL/NB on. I can get another on/off volume switch and mount that where the mike gain is and use that for mic gain and switched a talkback volume switch. Get another three position S/RF,CAL,SWR switch, change out the talkback volume switch and use that as a band switch. Clip the roger beep leads and solder those together and use the roger beep push button switch for a 10 kc up switch.

Of course,as cheap as Copper is selling these 936's I could buy another and keep it stock.

P.S. I might get one for my 959 but I'll check for cold solder joints on the 959's Viagra board first and put a 10 ohm resistor where I have the R133 bypass jumper soldered in.

Just pondering.

For the ones who don't know the Radio Shack sells converters

I have two as well as many others, also. But US stuff is all 110 plugs, but you can charge just about all your electronics with 220 and a small adaptor. But there was always someone forgetting and turning the smoke loose with a shaver or something. Elec Tech smoked a big screen TV once.

Been a few years but I think the the anl nb filter switch plugs into the les comm board.

then this becomes your normal, then high/low ch switch.

there is detailed instructions on how to install included with every kit.

Even on his sight is instructions

Ok, Lester did say to use the 959 instructions. I had been looking at this page instead.
