Viagra blue dot 'b' board problems

I never did get any more info on this board. I made a couple calls when I 1st got them and no one seemed to want to answer any question on it or said no one was there that new anything about it. so I just gave up and hooked it up with the 3 connectors as listed on cbtricks and it worked just fine. still do not know what the extra plug is for.

I think they have to label them,'Experimental' probably because of all the muscle flexing the FCC has done lately meaning you can experiment with them but they are illegal for use to transmit on 11 meters. You know that fourth plug is there for a reason. I guess you would have to look at the Ranger stable of radios and their wiring to maybe get a glimpse of what it's for. Maybe a future application or for something that never made it to market. I bought it specifically for my Ranger TRE-936ffc but it works great in my 959.
I wish I had info for the two tuning slugs on it though. It's still going to DTB for a tune and a alignment.

Alignment tips request

My 959 is 1 kc off since I installed the V-SMT channel board. I haven't sent it off yet for a tune and alignment as I'm still debating whether as to install a TRBX2 board in it and a CP-1. Is there a way to align it back in center with FC347 installed,MFJ-207,and a MFJ-886? Reason why is I want to try my hand(the first time) at aligning it back on frequency. Right now SSB is useless not being able to follow someone with only a 1.5 kc slide. Wished I had more slide.

With the FC347 soldered in except for the vco hookup,I'm thinking I could use the vco shield and wire as a probe.

here is all the info you are talking about. increase the slide etc.one way you can get the radio in line is have someone you know that is on freq talk to you while you tune them in with the alignment pots.the very last 3 pots for am lsb and usb are all you need to align after the channel mod was done.

with out a external freq counter it is hard to do the radio alignments if it needs all checked. the 347 counter is not designed to track some of the circuits that you will need to look at.

Thanks.
I was thinking about hooking all the wires up except the vco wires. The FC-347 can cover 1-40 MHz. If it's on freq then i don't see why I can't use it as a probe hookup to the test points on the radio. It's worth a look see.
Plus I could make some harnesses for the different radios I have and just plug the FC347 into them for testing purposes or to probe them.

The FC-347 counter will not work for testing purposes. The counter has a switchable internal IF of either 10.6975 or 7.8 MHz, depending on what your radio uses for an IF frequency. If you try to probe with the 347, it will display the wrong frequency. You need an actual frequency counter to do alignments.

~Cheers~

So your saying that it's a frequency adder/multiplier?

P.S. I've since learned that the radio that it's hooked up to would have to be aligned frequency wise first and then if the FC347 is off a kHz or so then one of the pots in the FC347 would have to be adjusted.

FC347 Troubleshooting

Here's the troubleshooting checklist and alignment procedure

It seems that the next step would be to get a good bench grade frequency counter.

One more thought. If you knew what that IF frequency was and had an identical tuned and aligned radio to test it on,then what frequency the FC347 displayed, you could then use that for a standard for future references.

The CB Tricks alignment page for my 959 has those specific frequencies listed. The FC347 would need display those freqs if used as a probe?
I'm guessing the LSB and the USB voltage connections are supposed to switch the FC347's internal circuits to reflect those freqs.

P.S. I reversed another pic besides this one so that I can use it to identify which traces to solder to on my iPhone

Here's an update on my Ranger Experimental V-Board I installed in my 959 several months ago. The 959 is pretty much more stable freq wise now than with the previous Viagra B Board I had installed with the exception of two incidences where I turned the radio on immediately after I turned on the Pyramid power supply, the 959's freq display showing 26.615 MHz. At first I about had a cow thinking that this channel board is junk but I turned off the radio and turned it back on in which the radio then was on the right preselected frequency. Obviously there's something going on between my radio and the power supply that sends it off into wrong channelville if I don't wait al least 3-5 seconds to turn the radio after turning on the power supply. I wonder of the 959's voltage regulator is a little on the goofy side.

P.S I can't post on the quad copter thread so here's a YouTube video to one quad copter enthusiast I subscribe too. Also,on some of his creations he uses a circular polarized antenna. Enjoy!

Nice vids and sweet design, I like the camera forward of the props design for sure. Nothing like having the front props show up in the vid. Good stuff.
