| | astron 70 amp ps. problem its a new ps but it gets realy hot on the bottom and the fan has never come on,the lites on the meters dim with a whistle on the mic ,even on low power of the radio..is this normal ? the radio is a 2970n2 200 watts. seen on the back of the ps a bolt 2 nuts and star washers and the word chassi by it ..is this for a ground wire ? is it possible there is a fuse for the fan that has blown .. noticed also the bottom of the ps gets hot but the heat sinks on the ps stay cool..

| | when we run astrons on 240v 50hz mains the transformer gets hot even without any load on the psu, the case under the transformer can often be much warmer than the heatsinks,
be carfull messing with the fan, it is powered from mains voltage,
some info and schematics, Index of Astron™ Power Supply Information at www.repeater-builder.com

I jumped out the thermal switch or thermostat so the fan runs all the time. Now its cool to the touch. Gets luke warm under load. That lug mark chassis should be connected to your station ground.

If you're saying that the lights on the radio dim under power that is just a fault of the rci line off radios, mine does that also.

A 70 amp supply will run that radio no problem especially since the radio only uses 14 amps or less.
