Yes it will open up the TX
, more than just 11 meter.
It does eliminate the automatic repeater offsets. It also eliminates the 60 meter channels pre-programed by the manufacturer but can always be programed in again. So it is not considered "damage" by any means.
As for the value of the mod, it depends on the user. Moleculo is a Navy/Marine M.A.R.S operator, so the value to him is high. Myself, I do not use the radio out of the ham bands, I have a CB
for 11 meter so the value is not so much for me.
As for "taking out" the radio, no offense, but if a person "takes out" the radio doing the mod, they suck at soldering/desoldering.
