Hello Morse123, Actually it's just a thin dish towel to keep anything from getting scratched. Also, my shack is in my basement so it doesn't get any more hot than just Luke warm if even that. I'm also planning in the near future of getting rid of the flat table and constructing my own radio hutch/desk combo with grounding rod so I can hang all my units from brackets. That way all the wires will be hidden and all I will have to do is reach up & grab a mic. Something like a big co
 
Also Morse 123 keep in mind that CB base is not running much power out.....It is a single final and has a what 3-5 amp power supply. Not a real problem keping it cool. I like 2970 of yours. When I got my first Gen 2950 they still had issues in the amp section that latter on some feedback injected into the amp solved.

My 2950 with the DX 100 Kit that got modified more then once would get so hot at full power that it would give you second degree burn. I added little tiny muffin fans to the case

Correct you are, However; this is by far no ordinary Zachary T.

The guy I bought it from had it modded and redone. All new tuners, all new seating putty for the final, On the front, the switch on the left is a three position switch. Center position is normal CB channels. Up position is upper channels above 40, 41 to 66, selected by the channel selector in positions ch5 to ch26. Down position will give you some lower channels, -1 to -9, on channel selector switch posit
