This just does not make sense. You press and hold the mike key while you press and hold the LDG tune button all the way through the tune cycle right? Many people make the mistake of letting up when the tuner starts to cycle. This error would explain why the tuner sees no RF carrier.
Too bad yours didn't work at all. I have dipoles and a vertical.multi-band end fed. The end fed does work on 11m using and LDG Z-100 Plus tuner.. The problem is the losses. It couldn't pull in anywhere near what the 11m vertical does. My set up seemed to peak out at around 10 miles. Anything...
I’m 70 and got my license about a year and a half ago. One of those bucket list things. At my age, I don’t have time to work into things so I studied and went from nothing to extra in one testing day. I’ve been a CBer since I was 16 years old. That’s important to know because it ties into your...
Mudfoot,
The Harbor Freight twin panel is about the best price you will find. No matter the brand, my experience is that Mother Nature married Murphy and you never get the rated wattage from a solar panel. Figure about 90 watts fleeting and about 70 constant. It will vary minute by minute. Don't...
It is probably OK but these small ceramic disk caps are hard to accurately test for leakage that can cause intermittent failure modes. It appears to be easily accessible. When in doubt change it out. When I change them out, I replace with the resin-coated ones – typically blue for these small...
The Sirio 2016 is in stock at Amazon but it's up at $175. The Sirio Tornada is another good one for about $100. The Sirio GPS 27 1/2 wave is only $70. I have had one of those for about 8 years. Been through 3 hurricanes and still working.
I would also recommend the Galaxy 959 or 979. Forget the drift comments. All radios drift until warmed up. The claims about the Galaxy radios are usually because they have more digits in the frequency counters so you can see the changes. The Galaxy 2547 base I use has 6 digits. It's basically a...
Road Squawker - to quote Peanut, I don't care who you are - that was funny as Hell.
Limey - just try it. No more info is needed. Simple fixes are always the best. If your SWR goes up or your TX declines then either fix the coax or replace the antenna. Otherwise, enjoy your radio.
1st let me correct my post. I generally do NOT like additional ground loops.
On to your questions. You should touch the radio on the back plate. It is metal and the coax connector attaches to this plate (typically). That is why it was confusing that nothing happened when you touched the radio...
I generally do like additional ground loops, especially in vehicles due to more possible noise. However, the real world sometimes dictates experimenting in particular situations. Try running a wire from your radio case to a good vehicle chassis ground point. Check the SWR and noise floor. If it...
Hi Matt,
I just joined the site. I run 959’s and a 2547 (959 with a power supply). Adjust your VRs for power and modulation. Adjust your max/min power for your RF dial. I set mine for 2 watts min and 4 watts max. Simply turn the RF dial counter clockwise for 2W into the amp. Adjust the...
