My Uniden PC76XL has echo board and talk back, peaked, tuned and D-11 clipped. With talk back on and mic gain up my speaker squeals. Speaker is across the cab from me. Will a noise canceling speaker correct this squeal?
What is the difference between a dynamic speaker and a noise canceling speaker?
Barjan under $15
Cobra under $20
Texas Ranger $50
Do you get what you pay for? or Is it all in the name?

Why reconnect D-11? Doesnt this let out all that my radio will do? Everyone tells me that they cant belive that my radio isnt one of the higher costing radios. They tell me that is very crisp and clear. All I want is my TB to be on without the squeal. Is a bigger ohm what needs to in the TB?

Without going into detail why , D-11 doesn't need to be clipped but the radio will still work OK , it could very well be a part of your problem , you have the speaker clean across the cab and it still sqeals , What kind of mic are you using ? D-11 clipped , you sure ain't going to be needing a power mic and a good echo board will appear to amplify your audio slightly more , that to could be part of your problem as well. Your speaker IS NOT THE PROBLEM here , more so on how the radio has been tuned and clipped and as freecell said , if the talkback resistor is only around 68 ohm , that will also add to your problem, something more around 80 to 100 ohm could help you here. Now with all that said , I would bet to say a Noise Cancelling mic will fix everything for you , even the stock mic might help as well (if your not already using one ?) other then that , I would suggest a RK-56 or a Astatic 636 NC Mic and I think you will be good to go after that. There are other ways JD as mentioned , but going to one of those mic's should fix your problem and you will still have all the audio you will need. I use a RK-56 with a 50 ohm resistor for my talkback and I only use my mic-gain at 12 : 00 and i have all the audio and talkback I need , but even still , if I did crank the audio up all the way , IM still not going to get any feedback from the talkback because of the RK-56 NC mic IM using , but if I were using a power mic or even the stock mic , I would then be squealing badly . so if you want to buy anything , get one of those mic's I suggested to you and you should be good to go , other wise take the radio back to whom ever did the job on it and tell them your problems and hopefully you won't have to pass out anymore cash to them to fix it. The 76 is a fine radio. Any NC mic on this page will work very well for you. good luck

Simple fix.

Don't use talkback unless you are adjusting an echo board....

You can't hear yourself talk enough...just by talking?

Talkback is what it is , once upon a time ago , I personally didn't care for it . For years it just wasn't there and I had no reason for it , I even tried it , and it just wasn't comfortable hearing myself talk everytime I was replying to somebody else. I finally decided I liked a touch of echo/reverb in my audio and the talkback became a tool for setting it the way I liked it but not only that , it allowed me after time to realize when I was over modulated and or to the point I would be louder then I wanted to be. Talkback became a everyday thing for me and I got used to it for the better of my own operations. If I didn't have it today , I would somewhat be lost other then asking for a radio check every damned time I had to make sure things were the way I wanted them. Talkback allows me to take care of myself in those aspects and after years of using it , I pretty much learned to live with it and like it. And the thing about talkback is , after using it for many months or years , you almost tend to forget it's even there but if it's not ? you will surely know that something is apparently not right with your system.

Whats the difference between the dynamic speaker and a noise canceling spaeaker?
Thanks for imput about the squeal. I have the 636 mic so thats not the problem. The D-11 has been clipped for a long time. The squeal started happening after the echo board and talkback was done. I guess there wouldnt be a squeal without the the feedback from the speaker to mic though. I think I'm going to have the oms increased like mentioned before and I am going to get a new speaker because this barjan I have is shot. Still need to know which speaker is better for the money?

Part of the trouble with speakers is that each person will have their own idea of what sounds 'good' for communications audio.

I personally like a full range speaker with a lot of punch so I tend to use computer desktop speakers or other 'stereo' speakers. Some guys like the crunchy 'communications grade' only audio with the bottom and top highly attenuated.

A brick solid mobile speaker...though definitely pricey is the Kenwood KES-5

You can drive that sucker LOUD, won't crack up like the Vanco sort of junk that a lot of CB suppliers sell.

I have the Vanco labeled version of this one which is very common.

It's total garbage in my opinion. It has a very hot 800Hz or so component to it that makes the audio muddy and hard to understand. It also breaks up very easily. I'm likely going to replace it with the Kenwood when I get around to it.

That Ranger External Speaker sounds sick. I know Ham operators that even use it.

Count me as one. I gutted a $160 SGC DSP speaker and put all the boards, switches, lights, etc. into one of those Texas Ranger speakers because the SGC speaker element is absolute C R A P. I blew out 3 of them because I couldn't turn up the volume loud enough to hear it in my Jeep (they kept replacing it under warranty). Oh yeah, the speaker was mounted about 6" from my left ear. To be fair, a Jeep with mud tires and no top is REALLY damn loud.

That Texas Ranger is REALLY LOUD. It doesn't have the smoothest audio, but I really don't care about that, if I can't hear it while mobile!! Anyway, I now have the world's loudest DSP mobile speaker. SGC should learn something from me :p :p

Just a tip, I got the BHI ANEM version of their adaptive AF DSP so I can use it with any speaker. It ain't cheap, but man does it work well.
