Twilight Zone
Midland only has one radio for sale, the 5001 Z, To me it looks like Midland is pushing the eject button on CB radio.
Their older Uniden stuff was alright but after Maxon started making them it seemed like they went down hill.

easy for you to say dude. Midland has sold more cb radios (and made more) over the years then all others . CB radio has been a dying breed for a long time now , this company has other avenues for making the mighty dollar , Can you blame them ? Midland may not have been the best radios on the market over the years , but they certainly made there mark well known in the cb radio business.

At one time, Midland was one of the top selling radios in the US....remember Convoy?
The 13-882C was a good seller, and the 13-895 was a great radio with NB and ANL`s that really worked.
The Power Max was a sweet radio as well.
I like them best when Cybernet was building the boards.
The midland 78 999 was an awesome radio, dual cybernet boards, PLL 02a, 1306 driver, 1307 final, AM/USB/LSB, 3 big meters and dual antenna outputs on the back of the radio.
The 76 999 was the euro version of the radio.
Looks a lot like the first Galaxy base radios eh?

I have a 1976 13-883 with a PC-103AA board and two Nec C1096 finals on a J shape heatsink.
It still works good. The Power Max III on the other hand was always breaking down.
I think I owned more Midland radios than any other, It's sad to see them not making the stuff they once did.

You got that right Shock ! many didn't like the cybernet boards , I thought those radios had some of the best damned receive I ever heard in any radio of it's time. Ajasent channel Rejection could be an issue on many , but not all and not that bad on many. On many of the first 40 channel analog type radios of 76 (made for 77) and on , were built tough and could be modded for more channels on 02A chips , the audio on those were telephone quality on there own stock mic's. Midland surely had it's day in the life of the Wonderful World of CB Radios. :)

Midland doesn't sell alot of CB's today they are in bigger markets. I think they will stick around CB though with a few models. Maxon debuted couple new CB's last week in Las Vegas @ IWCE show. Just inexpensive 40 CH AM rigs though.
