I do not think it is funny!! But you better think twice if you think the FCC is not watching!!! JMO!!:glare:

couldn't have happened to a more deserving person

It actually amazes me that somebody gets a WARNING NOTICE or Citation and declares (according to HIS interpretation) that so-called "10 Meter" radios that LOOK like a CB, have channels like a CB, are marketed in CB shops TO CBers are legal to sell: He will CONTINUE to sell them! I mean, he's got a document in HAND that says he is to STOP selling the product(s), the FCC IS the regulatory authority in the US, and when one bows up his back and keeps ON committing the illegal acts he's been TOLD to stop, he is just ASKING for it!!!!

This one isn't the ONLY one, either! There's a list of dealers who have already been warned, cited, or even FINED! Yet, they keep ON in pure defiance of the law, thumbing their noses at the old Fox Candy Company.
Yes, the FCC is short-funded. Yes, CB enforcement is not the top priority now and they try to avoid devoting resources to it. But, sooner or later, these dealers WILL get noticed. If they IGNORE previous letters, they will get noticed AGAIN with a fine of 7, 10, 20---even $100,000! (Like Ramko Distributors and Pilot Travel Centers).

Finally, the dealers and builders actually have brought this on THEMSELVES. If they had designed the radios so that when they were converted to CB, they wouldn't work on 28 MHZ (10 Meters) or vice versa.
IOW, one band or the other, but not BOTH!! Once they were converted to 11 Meters, they would not WORK on the 10 Meter band. This would have kept the hams from going into hyper-drive and "ratting" out the outlaws that were showing up on 10 Meters where they don't belong. Yet there was/is the attractive, but illegal, feature of "extra" channels that was part of the lure of these radios AND a selling feature. Then, tho, if these radios had been fixed so they could not work ON 10 Meters, the FCC would been a lot slower to react to the use of them on CB. I mean, how often do you hear of somebody getting busted over their use of a ham transceiver on CB IF that is the ONLY offense being committed? Not often. With the CB "clone" radios, the users flip their "band" switches up to what they think is a 'quiet" channel, the hams hear them up there, have a hissy fit and in a flash, they're on the phone to FCC !!!!(y)

And the beat goes on................................................................

that does make sense about your conversion idea..
too bad i dont see the manufacturers doing this in the near future.

I concur, maybe he thought he was exempt in his audaciousness? Although the site states "RadioActive is authorized to sell Texas Star", does that mean FCC authorized or just via Texas Star? I guess the question would be is Texas Star authorized to distribute or sell these amps, if no why continue? When I worked for PDC, we also housed Vectronics, in which their amps could be modified by the end-user (at that time) for use for 10-meters, but the amps were actually FCC certified with traceability.

Seems like a vicious cycle with little traceability for such claims with the "authorized" on the RAR site, highly circumlocutious. Bodacious? I say no, audacious perhaps.

Yikes, I am still trying to figure out what a wack pack is and why anyone would want one?

It's interesting you mentioned this. Yesterday I was reading on the conversions for the Delta Force and found they are equipped with a 4th conversion that will only work on 11 meters-

CON4 : 40 Channel CB Only (26.965 - 27.405 MHz)
  • 0nly operates on the regular 40 CB channels
  1. After selecting the desired frequency range and configuration, press the CPU Reset Switch (SW1) for 5 -10 seconds.
  2. Reassemble the radio, connect to 13.8-volt power source, turn on and test.
All that is needed is to find the jumper on the CPU board and move it to the fourth row labeled "CON4"-

So the technology is shown that they can do this as you say.

Never heard of the man. Just hope he made enough off of his business to pay the fine, be 'rehabilitated', and all those other "Yeah, right!" things. Sorry, just not gonna spend much sympathy about it.
Unless the behavior is 'life threatening', or security related, the FCC always gives an 'offender' more than one chance. If that 'offender' isn't smart enough to take that opportunity, well, guess he deserves what he gets? Oh well...

Texas Star skirted around the certified process by building them as CW transmiters.
When Sold they are actually 10 meter cw transmitters when they are shipped from the supplier.
There is an input for a CW key, and inside of the unit is a small oscillator board with a crystal which puts the output somewhere in the cw portion of the 10 meter band..

As they come from the factory they will not function as an amplifier, and regardless of the size of the unit, the maximum output is in the neighborhood of 5 watts. To convert these to an amplifier, which most people do, involves a series of modifcations that are more complicated that expanding the transmit capabilities of most newer HF All mode radios.
Instead of clipping a single diode, the oscillator board must be removed and wires connected to certain areas of the switch panel
I have seen shops around here that will keep the "export" stuff in the back, but there are a few of these units under glass in the store front.
There are not the restrictions written into the rules that effect CW transmiters, like Amps and 10 meters radios that are easly converted to Cb use, so called "dual use" radios.....they found a spot in a different category.

Ahhh I see, a loop-hole quite possibly. I remember that the Vectronics amps had a lockout device for the 10 meter band and there was a process where one had to contact the factory and certain paperwork involved.

Thanks for the info!

You holier than thou guys just crack me up.

It's ok to covert a ham radio to talk on 11meter but not the other way.

Even though the Lic. required to run a ham radio is easy to get.

I bet a lot of you were crying when the Morse code restriction was lifted. HaHaHa. :)

Then your ecstatic about someone getting fined. I'm sure you guys run 10 meter radios in your personal vehicle.

You just don't get it.

Why don't you spend the $$$ for a SuperWhackPack?

It's a rip off.

It's good to see a scam artist get what he deserves.

Or do you not agree?
