RF shutting my truck down

"I use a Davemade 8pill w/2sc2879's Driven by a 3pill (2-2sc2879 driven by 1-2sc2290) orDavemade 16pill w/ 2sc2879's Driven by a 2(2290's) hitting 4(2879's)."

use the proper amount of drive for the total number and type of devices used in the main amplifiers and your ecm interference problem will disappear.

Hello to you all and thank you for your help.
I had a bad O2 sensor. I retuned my antennas in an open lot starting with my war sticks.
Now I can key 1000 bird on my 16 pill and swing up to you don't need to know watts without touching the gas pedal. The DaveMade Yukon is back in action.

Thank You!!!

hitman,
you may not be out of the woods yet.
your high power may have been what caused the O2 sensor to go in the first place.

best to use some type 31 ferrite on the wires going to the sensor.

believe it or not , most human beings are resonant around 27 mhz
thats why the fcc limited people to five watts on 11 meters
you can seriously damage your body and brain around 27 mhz
if you run too much power

my gf has one of those cbs that came with the radio , in her cadillac
and last night we were running into town to catch a show and i was playing a round on it ,
heard some driver talking about his testicular cancer and that he would have to give up driving soon , said he couldnt understand where it came from
i asked him where his linear was , he told me under the drivers seat
then i asked him what kind of power he was pushing and he told me 1.5 kw
seems hes been driving around for about fifteen years cooking his nuts ,
and he didnt even know it was happening

why would you need 1.5 kw anyway , either the band is open or its not

im glad you got your problem resolved , but please consider backing off the rf some,

ever hear of a feraliminal lycanthropizer? try google on that

the average individual with a physical frame height of 1.75 meters exhibits peak current resonance at around 40Mhz.. while it is true that rf heating of the body over a rather wide range of frequencies can provide an increased risk of cancer it is not the cause of it. also realize that proximity is just as important as the power levels present if not more so. i've seen cell phone use promote the growth of cancerous tumors in the eye socket behind the eyeball. go figure, it's only milliwatts but it's right next to your head, on the same side where the tumor will be soon. in contrast, at the other end of the spectrum frequencies from 600-720 nm. can cause the body to increase its production of red blood cells, white blood cells, B cells and T cells provided the required nutrients are present in the blood and all the blood that is in the body is exposed to it. this can occur at the point where the aortic artery passes behind the navel in which case 20 minutes of exposure radiates the entire blood supply. they refer to it as single frequency light therapy. and for all of those of you who may not have heard, cancer was cured 70+ years ago.

a lil off base here , but ...... i read somewhere about how at the north and south poles that they use (or did use) microwave transmission systems for communications and that the folks noticed that snow/ice in front of the antennas would melt from their use . supposedly , the folks working outside use to stand in front of the antennas for a quick warmup when they were transmitting . it went on the say that an extrapolation of that process gave birth to the modern microwave oven .

Microwaves are one thing...HF another.

How many alternators are you running?

Buy a box of mix 31 and/or 43 ferrites and start putting them on everything going into and out of the computer. After it seems ok, put one more on every lead.

If you aren't already, mount the antenna as far to the rear as you can.

Make sure your modulation is under 100%. Above that and you're cranking out harmonics like crazy and wasting power.

If you're still having trouble, keep in mind that what you are essentially doing is trying to operate consumer electronics inside a high-powered transmitter enclosure. The first advice usually given under those circumstances is "Don't".

You could drop your power to 500W RMS and barely see any difference at the far end. The big guns may drown you out, but they're operating fixed with better setups available than any mobile. Guys talk all over the North American Continent on 100Watts. The difference is where they do it there aren't a hundred yay-whos all trying to do it at the same time.

Also remember every time you key-down on that much wattage, it takes gasoline to do it. Sort of like driving uphill all the time.

You have to look at it and decide if you're actually trying to "punch through" or just ensuring bragging rights on a dubious equipment setup, and whether being able to run the motor at the same time is worth the trouble. You may have to get yourself a pre-92 or so truck.

Hello Hitman:

The RF Energy is somehow getting into your vehicles ignition system or computer and causing the ignition to stop working. Causing the engine to miss and stop running.

I know in the older models there is a pick up coil in the distrubitor and this coil or wiring maybe picking up the RF Energy. Make sure the ignition module has a good ground and even the wiring could use some RF Shielding with EMI Cores and shielding.

Its a good place to start.

Jay in the Mojave

I have a 97 GMC YUKON with a 5.7 vortec motor.
The problem is when I run over 1500 bird watts my truck starts spitting and farting and wil shut down even when I work the gas to keep it running.
At 2000 bird watts I have about 3/4 of a watt reflect, so that tells me that reflect is not an issue.
I wrapped the computer in foil tape and that helped a little bit but I still have the same issue.
Oh yeah, I have DaveMade euipment only in my short tail suburban.

HELP somebody

the only part of n7trz's post that i may dispute is 'The big guns may drown you out, but they're operating fixed with better setups available than any mobile'. yeah, there are a lot of big 'base stations', but there are TONS of mobiles talking DX at 10kw & higher. sure a couple of kw into a fullsized beam or true 1/2 or 5/8 wave antenna has gain whereas ANY shortened 1/4 wave on a truck has loss, but when you're running 50kw, you can afford SOME loss.....roflmao. with those things going against you, he can't afford to loss another 1/2 db by going from 1kw carrier to only one half! but, you are 100% correct with 'The difference is where they do it there aren't a hundred yay-whos all trying to do it at the same time'. when my 4cx15000a can't get out on 27.025, i fire up the 746pro & hit 20m......

my two cents .....do what shockwave said to to......I used to trace bad rf for a cable company......all the jumpers and a complicated setup like yours is the problem......the eight pill will do wonders with the right radio. also grounds grounds grounds. hope this helps

Hitman',
Assuming that your output signal is 'clean' to start with, the solution is to shield/isolate/by-pass the truck's electrical system from RF. All of the electrical system, not just the computer. Oh, doesn't that sound like fun? One 'part' of your truck's electrical system is it's body. Get ready to do a lot of body part 'bonding'/grounding fun. That says nothing about the parts of the electrical system that are inside the truck (dash stuff, etc.). It just depends on how much of that 'fun' you can stand. If you do all that, then you should be able to run as much power as the electrical system (and/or your wallet) can provide power for. There is going to be some point where it just isn't gonna be worth it to you anymore. That 'point' is up to you and your wallet. It also depends on what the point is to start with, big numbers on a watt meter, or being heard.
Have 'fun' and good luck...
- 'Doc

I know this is a old thread, but I'm having the exact same issues on my 97 Suburban trying to run a Davemade 16 pill...

Hitman you said your problem was a O2 sensor...Just wondering if that fix your problem for good, or if you have had any more problems since...

I have stuck snap-on ferrite chokes on the wires to the coil, and computer and still have this problem, so I may try the O2 sensor deal next...right now all I can run is the 2x4 driver box without killing the motor.

JJD, hate to here you are having this problem. What you are going to need to keep in mind is that any wire leading to or from the CPU on the truck is an antenna just looking for stray RF. You have obviously found a path into it to cause a problem. One thing you might try is a scanner hooked up in real time mode and see what the computer is seeing when this problem occurs.
