Hello all, I have been thinking of getting either one of these amps but have a question. First off are they biased class AB like the rest? What are the "realistic" numbers I could expect without driving the dog snott out of em? I know the 1600v has the switchable 2 pill driver, but does it the the peak output if I were running an external modulator instead? Also, I do alot of sidebanding, so is the delay on the sweetsixteen sufficient enough?

Any info is much appreciated. Ive never owned more than a 4 pill comp box and Im lookin to clean up the signal a bit.
 

The DX1600 Sweet 16 will realistically show pep of 1400 watts on AM and can take a beating. The DX1600V will pep slightly higher but does not like to be over-driven. The DX1600V comes with a fan kit but the DX1600 does not and you will need one if you are going to "drive the dog snott out of it".
 
the 1600v is basically a sweet 16 and a 350 in the same box . ive read on here its best to not have an internal driver in a amp . freecell has a page on his site (that i cant find right now) that shows the typical watt input to output at many different levels for the sweet 16 . 100 watts got all the clean power out of that amp . id get the sweet 16 over the 1600v . if you have a typical high powered radio (80-150 watts) id run it with just the radio . i wouldnt run one of the super high powered radios (built in 4 pill) into it without reducing its output . but really if you got a 400-500 watt radio youd need to go past 2000 watts to start making a real difference anyway . if you do need a driver for your radio to push the sweet 16 id use the ab biased and filtered palomar 225 at it low or mid power level .

thanks jack . havnt seen you on much . guess youre still getting in SWP radios by the dozen to unwack .

BTW dxhound.......those texas star modulator amps are class c . using a class c amp to drive a class ab amp defeats the whole purpose of getting a clean ab amp to start with .

    Hello I have a old school 2950 receives great on all modes and transmits great on AM but no transmit on SSB. Does anyone have any idea?
