waiting to take delivery on it THIS week. quite excited, as this will give me a suitable "downstairs" radio. it's the second 98vhp i've owned. some of the locals here have radios in their bedrooms and such, and use multiple antennas... my situation is a bit different, as my antenna is mounted "inside". thus, one antenna will have to/and does do the job!

going with a radio that has a built in amp, is like slapping "cb" tradition in the face!

oh well..... :)

Not when the 98VHP has 4x 2879's in it :)

Still the owner of the biggest Galaxy Radio in the WORLD!!!
98VHP with 4X2879's doing 600 watts! :)

I've actually been running an Antron 99 for 8-9 mos., mounted on the second story floor of my home. It extends up into the attic, and no complaints as of yet (TVI)!!

As far as any other type of interference, I haven't heard any complaints there either.

Been pretty fortunate really!

Due to being in an HOA-restricted home (I can't even put a flag pole up), I've been forced to take these "extreme" measures, but as I've said, all is good!!

Thanks for all the responses. The 98 VHP is here, and dropping the maul (well not quite as my antenna is indoors, but nonetheless, it is here)!

Thanks again for all the input!!

The 98 VHPis a great radioif you want or need an all in one package. Do yourself a favor though and leave the finals alone, awapping in 2879's or other crap like that is an example of what not to do to a nice radio.

can i run my galaxy 98 vhp with a fatboy 2x2879 amp without mods to it? its a great radio but i want more power. any suggestions.

i'm new at this so please bare w/me. i'm trying calibrate my antena on the 98vhp and the swr meter goes backward. anybody know why?

No That will be way to much drive for that amp. The closest thing you would want to run with that radio would be a 6x2879 or 8x2879. If that is too big for you go get your self a standard radio with no amp and run a 2x4 or 6 pill with it. a 2x2879 will only see maybe 100 watts more than your radio is probably doing currently.

I had this same problem and have yet to figure out why. it probably means your antenna is not "matched(adjusted)" properly, what are you using for an antenna set up at the moment?
look for a guy named MASTER CHIEF he is the wwrf antenna mastermind guy. he will be able to help you out. BUT Do yourself one quick favor. DO NOT RUN YOUR RADIO ON THAT SETUP TILL YOU GET YOUR ANTENNA LOOKED AT. you will blow up your 450 dollar radio. it happened to my buddys magnum and now he has no radio to use.

CANT EVEN PUT A FLAG POLE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats against Federal law!!!!!!! Id put one up just to tell the towel heads who run the association to go pack sand!!!! Sorry, I read that and it made me mad! Im sorry for the situation snake eyes!!! Good luck with your new setup!

I have an old magnetic antena called a avert or something like that. I can bring the swr down to 1.1 or 1.3 with that one but i have to check it often because they go out of wack sometimes.
