Well you run that radio and then decide what your gonna do with it. We were just talking tonight about those rigs. The cherokee 1000 looked identical but was a standard Uniden /Cobra 5 pin and seemed much better you tell me I dont know. I can tell you this take the stock mic and put it in your tool box for a tow rope they are terrible. However I did use a ASTATIC ROAD DEVIL and it sounded great so any Astatic will be an improvement. Theres not a whole lot you can do with those rigs but cut the clarifier set the power (standard 20 watt radio) set audio and you will be happy as far as sound quality. Remember they are what they are and for the money if not beaten up or golden srewdrivered they are nice radios for a spare wide banded and compact in size I would not hesitate on buying another cherokee 1000 for the right price for use outside in my shop due to its small size.
