Changing finals 2950dx.

Transistors

I'm just wondering why you would want to change them out? Are they blown? While I don't have the 2950DX model, just the regular 2950, I wouldn't think that there would be much difference in actually doing it. Do you have a manual for the radio? If so, you can find out where they are located. They will be on the back of the radio near the antenna output, and located either on the chassis or some heatsinks. (I think). Like I said, I'm not totally familiar with your radio. If the transistors are bad, you just unsolder them using desolder braid, take out the screws holding them to the heat sinks, take them out, (be careful not to lose the mica insulator, if present), put some heatsink paste on the new ones, put the leads through the holes into the board, put the screw back in, and solder them back in, being careful to use a heat sink on each of the leads as you solder them. Getting the heatsink on the lead and keeping it there can be a problem. There may not be much room around the transistor and the other components. Watch that the heatsink doesn't fall off. Make sure that you have a good connection. Watch that you don't get a cold solder joint. The solder on the transistor leads should look bright, not frosty. Lew

Should be fairly straight forward. As Lew said, you'll need heatsinc paste, good solder station, something to get the old solder off with (braid or solder sucker tool) and various other small hand tools. MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE INSULATER that is between the transistor and the chassis back.

If you don't have the stuff to do this yourself, or just decide it's too much trouble, it wouldn't be very expensive to have someone do this for you assuming you have the transistors already.
