I can't believe anyone would spend this much money for CB use...very funny listing for many reasons.

Henry 8K Ultra Linear Amplifier - eBay (item 290259627085 end time Sep-16-08 21:45:39 PDT)

In case the listing expires, it's an Henry 8k Ultra a guy was using for CB, even shows a Ranger base in the pics. Lots of good entertainment in the listing.

One of the funnier pieces is that his kid needs the money for 'collage'.

I almost think a ham posted it as a joke as I can't begin to imagine why someone would feed a $300 radio into an amp that expensive or why, if they knew enough to buy a Henry, they wouldn't know enough to understand how to drive it properly.

I can think of more ridiculous ways to spend money... While I may not agree with his choice of drivers, if it makes him happy...

As crappy as the economy is now days, lotsa peeps selling off toys, and things they never thought they would part with.

It would be amusing to see the comments the FleaBay Police will make when they report that one...

I think the FCC should get with the times, and revise about 90% of the laws the retards issued back in the day...

Nice amp, though. I can think of a few people I definately WOULDN'T want that mucy power in the hands of...

The few Henry amps I've seen in person are pretty amazing. They are built like battleships. The transformers, even in the 2k's are just massive.

I don't see where he said he used it for 11 meters ?? States he used it on the 10 meter band??

My question is if as it appears and he is a ham why would he KNOWINGLY sell it to an 11 meter opp??? He is clearly open to selling it to ANYONE ???

just my observations :):)

He used it AM only. No ham would have used that amp AM only, it makes no sense. If a ham with that much money for an amp was running AM, he wouldn't be using that radio as the exciter.

He doesn't know how to drive it properly from the 'specs' he stated. A ham that could afford that amp to add to the shack would be very careful of driving it properly. A ham wouldn't describe how many pills he was driving it with.

He's using a Ranger CB base to drive it...it's right in the pictures. No ham is going to own one of those to drive a Henry 8k Ultra.

It's obvious that it was used for CB AM only while he had it.

The price of 'toys' depends entirely on the one doing the 'playing'. I really doubt it, but I might be convinced that I ought'a spend $10K on radio stuff. I also have no fear about ever spending $10K on a 'bass-boat', just ain't gonna happen. Different toys for different boys, you know?
I think that in general, the ad left the 'suitable' buyers list open to just about anyone with the required price. Nothing 'odd' about that, especially on 'eBay'. Strictly from my "poor ol'boy just trying to get by" perspective, good sales pitch. From my "buyer's" perspective, you bet, hold your breath! Wouldn't touch that with 'YOUR' ten foot pole, and rubber gloves! :)

Nice amplifier though.

That was my Henry. Ofcorse Im not going to list it for 11m. Not to be rude but, so what If I used it on 11m. Its sold now and I had a great time with it. And the 3 pill xforce was a great driver. It sounded fine to all my contacts. And SR385 It was well over a $700 RCI with the mods I had it built with and spelling is not my best point. I read these posts and I see a lot of bad spelling. I dont guess you have had a 8K ultra. I did and It worked great the way I drove him. I dont run a splatter audio station. I dont know it all but I think I did fine.
I have been reading these posts and on QRZ. Odd SOME people talk so much trash about others. As SOME of you know Its nobodys buisness. Just a lot of jelous radio ops.

I wish I had one, can't afford it. Just made me cringe to see how it was used.

Glad you sold it as you stated you needed the cash, so that is good.

Those amplifiers are the bomb built great aswell to bad the old fella that made them is all done now :( people were really67 after these things I think the guy that made them or designed them was from California. Ide like one but for 11 meters its a bit pricey for someone to open the old wallet and start dumping sheesh

Ok so NOW I can say it was used by (gasp) one of us CB'ERS but prior to the seller posting there was NO way to know it was NOT used just as listed? To say "no self respecting ham would" just dosn't cut it as I consider myself an excelent radio opp and for the life of me I will never understand why anyone would be ok with anything less the the best equipment (with reguards to spectral purity). My point is people do dumb stuff ham's as well as CB'ERS
