Hams on CB

Now, now. Like the entire gist of this thread (which is to denigrate hams and I believe is motivated by jealousy), it's ALL about "point of view"---the perspective of the poster. Remember, this is two-way street and the mirror reflects BOTH ways! For me, the opposite is true: CB is for me an occasional tool used when the road backs up for no reason and I need to find the right lane. Intelligent conversations, to me, are found in discussions of theory, polite conversations about/with family and friends.
Honestly, I mean NO harm, but I simply cannot STAND the silly, immature,
"cutesy" phrases and sayings that CB ops use. Like............."I ain't got no panties on"! Or "Ah jist got down". Or endless and silly repetitive phrases (WHO CARES IF YOU "GET DOWN, OR UP, OR FALL OVER"?) (y)
Instead of meaningless, repetitive phrases over and over and over, why not just say "YES!!!!"

(y) If I had to listen to that for more than 5 minutes, it would drive me crazy!!! It is STILL, after all, a matter of opinion. I NEVER just talk on CB just for the heck of it; it comes on to find out which lane to get in (and can simply listen for awhile for that without saying a word), then it goes OFF. When I find out what I want to know, I'm done!

Boring is relative. I know this might offend a few, but we can't have it ONE way or OUR way alone. It's all about perspective, and the perspective of the two services is different.

Let's quit sniping at each other; it solves nothing.

I take it that you don't use 80 meters much then.lol

Mostly I check into a few nets. I am not much on continuous chatter at all. I know what goes on most bands and avoid the jerks. Sure, there's jerks on amateur radio; you will find them ANYWHERE people gather. But what I was saying in reference to CB earlier, when that thing starts that HOOOOOOWLLLLL, SCREEEEEEEEEE, ROOOOOOOOAAAAARRRRRRRR and people start with the asinine phrasology over and over and over and over and over (HOW 'BOUCHA, CENTRAL NA'WTH C'LINA, YUH GOTTCHA EARS ON, BREAK BREAK (WHISTLE, WHISTLE) I BUMPS IT DOWN, DOWN, DOWN, DOWN, DOWN (ECHO ECHO ECHO), I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'M A GONNA, GONNA, GONNA, GONNA, LOCK, LOCK, LOCK, THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS, CHANNEL, CHANNEL, CHANNEL, CHANNEL, CHANNEL, DOWN, DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN!) YEEEEEESH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:angry:

Then if you are in the car with me, you'll hear some very uncomplimentary mutterings and references to imbeciles morons, and single-digit IQ's as the radio goes

CLICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anybody that can equate THAT to 'intelligence", I'm sorry..........I DON'T understand!!!! LMAO! But I've been known to cut it off when hams get silly, too! I don't relate to nonsense in ANY radio service!!!!

WOW ! So many interesting comments !
Lets see about this one. I'm just poking at you ALL!!! Don't take it so serious !!
Lets say a HAM radio operator ( not a cb'r ) runs extra power (lets say 2000 watts) on CB channel 19. Then his/her neighbor complains about interference and all we have to do is show our license and tell them there isn't anything that can be done. We get away with this "because we have a license" ?????????

Nope, that's against the law no matter who you are. Welcome to the forum.

Nope. A ham can run up to 1500 watts on any ham frequency and get away with it.If he runs more power than that or runs outside the ham bands then he can be held responsible for causing the interferance.

one thing i like about CW Morse is his sense of humor. LOL
boy, i bet he's lots of fun at parties. LMAO!

Well CB is free we can all talk there the difference you just have to apply yourself and get your ham ticket and also have the best of both worlds and gain those extra band use. Anyone can become a ham like anyone can talk CB. The Ham license just isnt handed to you and if one chooses that its to much work and its not worth it then thats thnere choice.

Becomming an Amateur Operator doesnt make you a different person and exclude you from anything it just gives you the right to talk where those that studied and got there license can. 90% of Amateur Operators started on CB and still frequent there because if they didnt now they would be considered a Ham Radio @ssole that thinks hes to good for CB.

I think its funny people lable Amateur Operators as pricks but then there the ones complaining that theres Ham guys on 11 meters it nothing but a For verses Chevy thing meaning theres just as many CB 11 mete people bashing Ham operators as there is Ham operators basging 11 meter people I for one could give 2 $hits where anyone talks.

Would I think it was right for an unlicensed 11 meter person to go play on the amateur band when I had to study no I would think it was bull$hi+ and not fare but who the hell does that anyways you can usually see by viewing the FCC activity section .

It would be like someone saying because they drice a Chevy Chevette that the guy driving the Chevy Corvette shouldnt drive on the same streets. I f you want a little extra than save some money work a bit more and get that Corvette.

I have a group of people I talk to on 11 meters but had to put up a Gizmotchy beam to make up for the difference to hear and talk to a few farther out but I love hanging there all the same as a matter of fact several of them are Ham Operators aswell.

We all can get into trouble on 11 meters HF rigs are about as legal there as the next guys XFORCE 10 transistor amplifier you would never know if you were talking to a Ham on 11 meters or not because a callsign assigned by the FCC isnt required but as far as the Amateur bands you have to use that callsign evry 10 minutes durring your transmitting time on the air.

All it takes is a little studying and you could have all the extras aswell and theres always someone on the HF bands 24 hours a day so theres no waiting for skip unless you choose to worldwide DX then your skip is needed . An ARRL Technicion manual is all you need to get started a littles study time and whaa laaahh.

Hams on CB running extra power !!

"SOME" Hams run extra power on "CB" thinking they can do so just because they have a general class license. If they cause tvi or other interference using power on "CB" they just show their license and the neighbor looses the battle. The ordinary "neighbor" who does not know the law suffers. CB is 4 watts am, 12 watts ssb. 11 meter cb was a ham band until the FCC changed that. You all know that. I have heard hams still complain about it.
Anyway !
QUOTE from a ham, "Transmit where you want but make sure you show your license to the neighbor next door when he complains about hearing your voice on his baby monitor or their cheap am/fm radio while they were listening to the game. They haven't a clue that you are transmitting with extra power on CB. Just show the license and send them back home. Most neighbors are ignorant to the FCC rules. And if they call the police, show them the license"

I had a ham ask me when was the last time a ham interfered with your station. I said just the other day when you were running extra power on 27.185 and I was on 27.215 talking to another station. He said, " I have a general class license"

" I said WTF !!! "

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Except 30 meter (200 watts) and 60 meter (50 watts) and 23cm (5 watts) and if your a technician ( 200 watts on hf),,,,,,,,,,,that is here in the States :D

I always forget about 30m as I do not bother with that band and we do not have 60m here.Yet. I was not aware of the low power limitation of 5 watts on 23 cm. AFAIK we have no such limits here but then again I have no knowledge of any 23cm operations in my area at all.All I really worry about is the 2,250 watt limit on SSB and 750watts carrier on AM limitation that I have. Actually I don't even have to worry about it as I can not even come close to achieving that limit. Yet. ;)

LMA:laugh: Yeah hammer down QRN 2200 watts of plate modulation is always good for the neighbors. Im lucky Im where Im at I dont bother anyone no matter what band Im on and I dont AM so that helps a bit aswell.

Actually Tony, with a 750 watt carrier that translates to 3000 watts pep on AM mode, twice what you guys are allowed. (y) The 2250 watts is just for any type of SSB mode including SSB,RTTY,PSK,FSK,SSTV etc.
