Been licensed here for 30 yrs..started with CB.. If I meet a new Ham and tell them I still like CB they look at me like a Moron.. why is that.. they are small minded in my minded and I hate that.. Doug

Its just normal human behavior. We require someone to look down upon. There is a small grain of insecurity in most people that they over compensate for by denigrating others.
I started as a CB'er too. Then my kids came along, and I didn't want to expose them to the 'trash' that was CB in our part of TN. I gave away a nice base station, a mobile rig, and the antennas for them. Ten years later, I have a quality CB setup inside the cabinet with my HAM rigs.
My cabin is set up for HF, CB, 2m, and a cellular yagi. Communications are uber critical in this area (remote WY), and honestly, CB would probably net a 'first responder' during an emergency before the other modes. Almost every ranch and ranch truck has a CB. I'd have much less chance of calling in Jack-the-Rippers drunken little brother out here than back east. See, even my attitude is coloured by the trashy side of our CB fraternity!
Lately my prejudices have leaned against the Morse impaired, who are allowed data privileges alongside the CW ops. We now have "no code amateurs" (truly amateurs) blasting data streams across the spectrum. They don't even bother to ID most of the time, just setting up skeds via the web or cellphone, then crashing 'in use' frequencies without so much as a qrl? I've had it happen to me twice this week!

Of course, anyone that points out foolishness must be.

quite honestly I would have to agree... And yea, I'm a Ham, but it has little to do with being snobby, over 35 years in radio has allowed me to see all kinds...

I used to go to Ham fests on a regular basis, met a lot of good people, met a lot of Retards. First you have the Morons who think they are better then you, both CB'ers, and Hams. Then there are the ones who will look down on you. They always seem to have a Reason, they don't like how you look, what you buy, who you associate with, ETC. The list goes on.

Your comments, and general attitude towards Hams definitely put you on my list. I will leave it up to you to decide where. Quite a number of your posts regularly have you whining about someone or something.

Not very productive at all.. and the door definitely swings both ways on this one. Truthfully I think your just a typical internet "Troll" and your about two mouse clicks away from having the distinction of being the first on my Forum ignore list.

I'm sure my post will have your ranting, but truthfully your posts are getting old :headbang

I agree with you and I'm not a ham. Yet

i dunno if it's so much a no code/know code issue, but i have been QRM'ed by the boater types that want free (non-legal e-mail over the ham bands) and use WINSTINK 2000 in the PACTOR iii mode:headbang:headbang.

and yes, you will not decode any ID from the auto-bot qrm machines that just transmit any time, anywhere with out listening first.

BTW, i agree, this type attitude is not needed here: "Most hams I have met think they are SPECIAL.. they started with CB and now they think CBer's are low lifes..not all are JERKS,, but I would say from my experience 60% are.. what a bunch of low lifes.. Doug N7JGN "

Thirty years ago there was no where near as much annimosity between hams and CBer's. As CBer's moved outside the normal band and ran more and more power they developed a renegade reputation and were all painted with the same brush. That's pretty much the main reason things spiraled out of control between the two groups.

Thanks for the clarification there, I 'lump' all that data QRN together. To me its all the same.
Although CW is allowed even in the voice portions of a band... I seldom get any takers up there. It gets you out of the data/qrn, but up amongst the cw handicapped.
I suppose I have seen this thread repeated a time or two... but I get so frustrated at times I can't help but feed-the-troll. I pulled up the past posts of some of the members... we must be using troll bait; even I'm turning into one, my eyebrows are fusing together...

Some of the real old timers in HAM..... (most are dead and gone now, but there's still a few left).....have an attitude toward CB'ers becasue they were around when the 11 meter band was part of amateur radio, and they didn't like having to give it up to a new group of radio operators that didn't have to learn code, and take an exam in front of FCC personnel.

I can't remember the year I applied for and got my CB license, but it was sometime around 1974 or 75. At the time I applied the application was (if I recall) like 3 pages long, and you were required to join either REACT (the HAM equivalent to ARES) or some other emergency radio service associated with the Citizens Band Service. I also remember a few who got licensed before me, tell me that their application was a lot more detailed and difficult to fill out, so in that time period the FCC had already started to deregulate the service. During my time in CB there were, and I personally knew a small handful of guys that broke the rules, ran power, and shot skip. We had jammers and shit talkers, but it wasn't as bad as it is these days. Back then the vast majority of CB'ers had a radio in their vehicle, and maybe one at home, most ran stock power, and at worse had their sets tuned up to put out 6 or 7 watts max.
The vast majority of those involved in CB today pride themselves on how much power they can run, I've seen the websites where they openly brag and display photo's of their vehicles with 4 & 5 alternators to power large amplifiers through big antennas. Personally I don't care what they do, I don't look down my nose at them, and I don't have a problem with them as long as they contain their activities to the 11 meter band, and stay off of 10 and 12 meters with their illegal equipment. Some of these guys are quite talented, and have a higher level of electronics knowledge that I ever hope too.

However, there are many HAM's that take issue with the popularity of today's CB'ers and their penchant for over powered equipment, plus there are a good number of them who practice "FreeBanding" and cause interfearence to amateur operators on the 10 and 12 meter bands.

The real issue here is...those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
There's two sides to every issue, you ask why so many HAM's look down their nose at CB'ers, you should be questioning why so many CB'ers are outlaw radio operators....
If you don't know what I'm talking about, then perhaps you should take a look at websites like....CBassholes and CBretards I need not say anymore.....

Don't normally get involved in these types of threads but for some reason felt compelled to throw my worthless .02 in this time.

Used to have my ticket but let it lapse some 20-25 odd years back. Thought about getting a new one, still might. If I do, it will be "No code"

I started in in CB and came back to CB after my 20 year absence, I enjoy all my radios, talk to some people and ignore others.

Bottom line is I have fun, enjoy the hobby and could care less who wants to look down their nose at me.

They are the one with the problem not me. :D

I'm all done now, Black Dog on the side.

Sometimes people are the way they are because others acknowledge the behavior which causes self validation. More often than not, ignoring the behavior and thus not proactively validating it is the best way to make it go away.

Wow, did I just type that, or did Dr. Phil take over my body for a sec?
