Hi, I was thinking about doing the MRF 497 transistor mod on my 2510 that I recently picked up. I was wondering if there are better transistors out there than the 497? What about MosFets??? Anything equiv? What about any new mods for power output with the old radio??? Thanks. OR IS IT EVEN WORTH IT??? Everything works fine right now. Just wanted a little bit more and did not want an amp!

It's not worth it. Just a "little more" power will not noticeably change your signal strength. I've never heard of anyone putting FETs in that radio. That doesn't mean it can't be done or noone is doing it...I just haven't heard of it.

I agree. Leave it alone. Get a small amp if you want more power, or just wait for the sunspots to show up, then you won't need more than 10-15 watts to work the world.

if one was to attempt using fet outputs i would use the mitsubishi rd16hhf1 because the leg would be lined up with the mrf 497 . as well as the rd16hhf1 is an actual rf output insted of a switching fet . it would be simppler to install in the radio. but i would use a sd1446 before the fet for more power and for simpler install. look up roger birds sight lots of power mods there.
