Ok, trying to finally get up to speed on these new mosfets. I know there are IRF520's, and then I have seen 2030's or something like that. How do they compare to the 1969 and 2312? Which ones are in newer cb radio's now like Cobra,Uniden, and Galaxy? I also heard that the 2030 is more of a replacement then an up-grade in terms of power. Someone give me the lowdown.

From what I have read is that the ERF-2030 is a re branded IRF-520. The IRF 520 is made by International Rectifier. These are MOSFETS which are supposed to be more resilient to heat etc than the old bipolar type transistors and will take the abuse of higher SWR before failure. They will also put out more rf power with less electricity. The current Cobra 29's and Uniden 78's use a 2SC2078 final which is a bipolar transistor that has been around for years. The 1969's are a bipolar transistor that has been around for years and was used primarily in SSB rigs and the older import radios (Galaxy etc). The newer imports are switching to IRF 520's. Some of them with dual 520 finals.

Anybody know where i can source these IRF520'S? I'm also trying to source the MS1307 as used in crude cb amp's. Cheers.
