Howdy.
I have a Royce 1-625.
The speaker doesn't work.
I checked it with a ohm meter and it is ok.
There is a resistor on the red wire.
What is that for and could that be the problem.
I thought about taking it out but wanted to ask you all first.
Thanks

Actually a good speaker check is to put a capacitance meter across the leads. If it's good, it'll make an audible scratching noise out the speaker. Something else in the audio circuit may be bad. Try and external speaker in the rear jack. If you get normal sound out then, then the audio circuit of the radio is okay. Trouble will be back on the speaker.

good luck

I just checked and a Royce 1-624 has a 4.7 ohm resistor from the + side of the speaker to the External speaker jack. Don't know if the 1-625 is the same or not. I'll dig a SAMS out and check later on.

what does the other end of the resistor connect to? I assume one end goes to the speakers positive terminal.

It seems that someone was either trying to put high pass filter on the speaker to cut out the noise and forgot the capacitor; or they were trying to get talkback on the radio. I would go with talkback most likely and they were a little short of getting it done.
