The last year has brought a lot of growth and success to the Worldwide Radio Forum. We all have each other to thank for the continued success of this site. Whether we're each interested in Ham Radio, CB Radio, or any other type of Radio, everyone here has been a part of demonstrating that it really is possible to have a site where we can all get together to help each other and promote the radio hobbies in general.

This year we will have Father's day give-away to celebrate the success of all of our collective dedication to this hobby and forum. The winner will have a choice between a Ham Radio related gift or a CB Radio related gift (I haven't decided what they are yet!!)

While I'm trying to figure out what to give away, I need ideas from everyone on criteria to be met for signing up for the drawing. We can do an online contest, basic site usage criteria like before, or any other ideas that people have.

Let's hear some ideas on how to make someone a Father's Day prize winner!

Minimum one year participation or 50 VALID posts!!Not just someone trying to get their rating up.

Or maybe only those who have posted from this point back that they lost there job and are trying to make ends meet in this economy. Im sure those folks would love a piece of good news and a show of good old American neighbor support!!! If you decide to do it this way, Ill be the first to donate $5 or more to the cause!!!!!

Or maybe only those who have posted from this point back that they lost there job and are trying to make ends meet in this economy.

That's not a bad thought, however I wouldn't want to exclude those who have also taken a pay cut just to keep their job. It would be really cool, though if someone in one of these types of situations won the drawing :)

their are alot of brilliant and educated people on this forum. Im sure we could come up with a way of validating the information! Even if it were just to go back in the archived posts and read peoples comments.
Dont get me wrong, I would love to win somthing. But there are those who Im sure would get more "satisfaction" out of it.

I propose that the forum setup a donation fund for the fathers day gift, and set a date that donations will no longer be accepted. At that point, look at how much money was raised and decide upon a gift or if enough was raised, maybe a 2nd and third place.

There are enough well to do folks on this forum that dont need anymore junk and if they wanted it they could buy it. and its these folks (including me on a military salary!!!) that should be helping their fellow American during this countries darkest hours (no pun intended:) )

Great idea and very fine words offered to the group Moleculo. All I can suggest is same as last time, please do not require the posting of any pictures. Not everyone owns a camera and I still don't own one. Thanks and here's to contributing to the good growth of the site

I think it should be fair, open to everyone that enters, and since it's a "Father's day" present, everyone who enters should be a Father.

My thoughts for what they are worth.....

All excellent and noble suggestions have been made so far, however some of those suggestions (as noble as they are) would be unfair to a segment of this forum in one way or another, disqualifying an entire segment because they didn't loose their job, or because they haven't married or had children yet really wouldn't be totally fair to all who have contributed and participated here. It would turn a prize drawling into a form of entitlement or welfare, and that's not what a prize drawling should be about.
It should be open to all who actively participate on the forum, if you happen to be the winner and wish to donate said prize to someone you know that lost their job, or really needs that item and can't for whatever reason afford to purchase it, then that should be your choice.

I don't know if this forum has the software to support it, but I used to administer a forum on EZBoards.com that had a community chest, all members had the ability to donate to the chest via PayPal, if such a device could be set up here then those who wish to donate to this cause will have a convienent tool to do so. Once the dead line for donations has past, then the administrator could establish what prize could be purchased.
No doubt not everyone has a PayPal account, but this is just one suggestion with possibilities....

As for what type of gift, perhaps a gift certificate to HRO, AES, or better yet Cheapham.com since they sell both CB, ham, commercial, and marine radios plus antennas and accessories for all. That way the winner could buy what they want or need, and unlike a cash prize that the other half might try and dictate what it should be spent on, a gift certificate to one of these places will insure the winner gets something radio related......and that's what this is all about......

I also agree with Wire Weasle that photo's shouldn't be a requirement since some folks either do not own a digital camera, and the task of taking, downloading, and posting photo's can be too confusing to others. Beyond that, just use the formulas you have used in the past to determine the winner......

I usually don't like to ask others for contributions for the site and just use the advertising revenue to fund the costs and forum drawings.

However, there is a way to purchase a site membership...I just don't display it prominently. You can go to your User Control Panel and on the left side there is a menu item called "Paid Subscriptions". Or you can just click here to go there directly:
http://www.worldwidedx.com/payments.php.

If you want to contribute a different amount, just PM me and I'll give you my PayPal address. All proceeds from paid memberships between now and the drawing date will be used to fund the prize. I'll make a new thread updating everyone on the amount of the fund.

Did we decide on criteria?

Before contemplating a donation, it would be nice to know what types we are going to try to exclude from the contest.

Also, since this Sunday is Mother's day, maybe we can call it a Mother's/Father's day thing?

And Mr. MIG has a point. I thought it would be OK to include only those that sired or birthed. Maybe that would be unfair. I know that on Mother's day, I take both my parents out for a nice brunch, and I take them both out to a nice dinner on Father's day too!

How about, if you have/had a father, you're IN? If your father served in the military, you get two gum wrappers in the hat, and if your father died in service, then you get 4 gum wrappers in the hat?

I never intended to have any restrictions on only fathers, etc., I just thought it would be something nice to do on Father's day.

I'm open to doing whatever you guys want for the criteria.

I like the idea of a donation thing, except for the fact that NOT everyone can afford to donate and NOT everyone has a paypal acct. I guess my biggest concern is that people that have donated get into a pissing match with those that didn't and or cant. What I mean by that is this, Joe shmo donates X amount of $$, Jim Bob cant afford to donate anything. Jim bob might post something that Joe shmo didn't like an now Mr. Shmo is throwing it in Jim Bob's face the he donated and Jim Bob didn't. Now this makes Jim Bob feel bad and the "pissing match" starts. Whether it be in a post and or IM. I would assume that most of us on here are adults but there's always that one Joe shmo that just cant help themselves. I would like to think that would not happen but unfortunately it can and does. This is only an opinion and hope I didn't offend anyone as that was NOT my intention!!
I also like the gift certificate idea for the reasons already stated. I hope all works well as I could use a few things my darn self lol

C'mon guys...

...I never asked for anyone to contribute. I just wanted to do a drawing for the forum members on Father's Day. Others offered to contribute and I said "OK". Let's not turn a postive thing into something negative.

The donations are not going to be made public. I'm just going to state how much the donated amount is up to.
