i am building a home brew noise toy box my 2 questions are i have this old bull sh** detedtor thingy that i put in one before but i cant control the audio level out of it it was hooked to like a 1 or 2 wat 8 ohm speaker little tinny one in the bs detector how can i use this and control how much it is throwing in to the radio? and then i have an old modulation meter out of an old cbs 1000 base and i want to use it on this too how can i get the meter to move by hooking it in to the audio line and the shield line?

i tried using a pot before annd it didnt work this toy was set up to play out loud on a little 2 watt speaker that was built in to the thing i took it out of as far as making tho old mod meter out of the radio any idea hop to make this move with the audio out like adding a cap or some thing in line? right now i have a 400k ohm resistor in line on that toy going to the audio out line but it still sounds very distorted

The easiest way......is just pick up whats called an "L Pad'.... its designed for adjusting audio levels up or down while keeping the impediance the same. Its almost like 2 variable resistors put together.... one adds or decreases resistance and brings the audio up and down... the other maintains the impediance.
Hook up the L Pad ( looks like a bigger variable resistor) between the noise toy output and audio amp input in the radio ( or where ever)
You can also just change the resistor that sets the gain of the op amp \audio amp in the noise toy you want to hook up.
Another easy one is just lowering the supply voltage a bit to the op amp.
If you know the op amp \ audio amp thats used, you can just get a datasheet or dig up some info on it and change the resistor that sets the gain.
An L pad would be the easiest way.... or if your good with ohms law you can do the same thing with resistors almost like a voltage divider. You just need to add some resistance but keep the impediance.
