Well I did my General license upgrade today and passed so again my studying paid off the hard part was I also at the same time was working and studying with my wife and 12 year old son and 13 year old daughter for there Technician test and they all also passed today(y)

My wife had 1 wrong kids each had 5 wrong but whocares THEY ALL PASSED! Im thinking of the Extra but wont even think about looking at that until spring. The wife and kids will also look into the General at that time since we have the study material already here it might aswell be used . My youngest daughter wants to do this aswell shes 8 so with the 4 of us now with the tickets we should beable to help her along a little at a time.

Ok Hamer Ill have to have you help me keep an eye on the DATABASE if you dont mind and have the time. They say they send it priority mail and it should be Thursday already and it will be in the database I find that hard to believe but we will see. Hamer if you have the time to help as you did last time for me let me know and Ill send you there info.

Well the adventures begin with the kids and the amatuer radio world The wife will probally only talk 2 meters to me on her way home from work but who knows once the skip cycle starts that could all change She and the kids took a Technician study class Saturday in Fond Du Lac Wisconsin and they went back today to brush up and take the test I at the same time took my General.

Anyways we were all happy and I was pretty proud of the kids. Now I have to feel my way around the new band portions I get Im just happy I get 75-80 meters now. (y)

TonyV225,
Congratulations, for all of you!
Now, there's a part of this whole thing that you may not have realized. You're either going to have to furnish radios for all the family, or share yours. Did you happen to think of that? "Uh... uh... wait a @#$ minute!", you say? Too late 'OM', you're in for it now!

Been wondering what to do with all that extra money laying around? Well, you might introduce the 'YL's to SSTV. You know, sending pictures on the radio? Lets see. Computer, Graphix programs, digital cameras, associated cables, interfaces, and a few extra $$ for the misc. things. That ought to do a little house cleaning at the bank. Aww, it ain't that bad, really, sort of.

And just think, if you get that Extra you won't have to worry about all those band limits for the different license classes any more!

Then again, give a thought to APRS. Plant a transmitter on those 'boy friend's cars, know where they really went. And on second thought, don't do that. 'They'll know about that sort of stuff too, and will turn it off, or re-plant it on somebody else's car. Won't that be fun? You are in soooo much trouble.

And after wringing all the B.S. out of that, congratulations again.

LOL well I have a closet of radios each of the 2 kids now were given a YAESU FT-840 I had 2 here and those rigs as far as Im concerned would be great starter rigs very easy to run I also have on my desk a Yaesu FT-990 and a Yaesu FT-450 along with a Kenwood TS-50 with the matching AT-50 tuner well thats my wifes movie star radio as the locals call it I have several HF amplifiers mobile and base tube type aswell as solid state units so everyone should be good to go .

I have several other 10 meter radios if need be but those FT-840 should be fine and they shouldnt have to mess with my equipment. Ive enjoyed my HF and wanted that upgrade to expand that and my setup has served me well although Im looking at a rig thats newer to put inplace of my FT-990 that radios a 9 out of a 10 in both performance and looks and was just tuned realigned (serviced by Burghardt Amateur Center a month ago. I just want new

I have to get them some 2 meter HT's and a 2 meter mobile unit for them to use for a base. There are enough antennas up here at the homestead and one I put up a few weeks ago specifically for there use as an insentive to pass ;) Anyways thanks all and yes this is going to be interesting for them and me aswell watching them.

My upgrade and the wife and kids callsigns were all listed today . Them Ve's were right they said by thursday I would never have believed it but they were spot on. Mine took almost 2 weeks for my callsign if I remember right so theres really was quick to be listed in the Database but then again so was my General upgrade this time.

congrats Tony and family! Thats cool. well i'm usually on 75/80 in the early mornings 0430 and after 1800 on the way to and from work. If it wasn't hunting season i would be on more than that. Gotta slay some more deer to fill the freezer.

Congratulations!

I know you said you were going to wait on the extra, I don't know about you, but I have a very difficult time with math. The extra took me 3 times to pass, each time the math kicked my ass. I got so upset with the math it made me forget the rest of the questions. I barely passed on the third time but I passed!

Take the time now and study and learn the equations for the math, it's a bitch for the extra. Well at least it was for me!

I agree with HH on the math part as well.:headbang I struggle with math likewise and was able to get some help at work to help me understand some of the equations. Higher Math to me is like a language. If you don't use it on a daily basis it ends up taking a back seat to other stuff you have going on in your head. I'm just glad it stayed in my head during my testing.:) Polar coordinates, Phase angles, and the like were like Greek to me. Go figure:confused:
Keep studying, you can get it.
