Thanks to my dog, my FT-60 kissed a tile floor today.
The sound isn't coming in clear and the squelch seems always open . It's really disappointing because I always have been very careful not to drop it or even handle it recklessly.

I'm thinking of selling it on eBay or directly as damaged for parts. What would it be worth? 50 dollars?

I called Yaesu and they estimated 70 dollars an hour with a 35 dollar bench fee. Yeah right...

Anybody else have a similar experience? I really liked that radio... the only thing I hated about it was that it didn't stand upright. Awful top-heavy design with no support on the bottom.

Maybe I'll get a VX-3... it won't be the same though :[

Don't get a VX3 unless you are _sure_ it has enough TX power to be useful for you. They make much better scanners than HTs.

I'm sorry you broke it, but thanks for the video! I don't know why, but seeing broken stuff in action always makes me chuckle.

It's worth at least opening it up to see if you spot something obvious. Maybe the button you press to monitor is just broken and always engaged. That could be a very simple fix if you have a good soldering station. If you don't want to mess with it just list it for sale with that video...someone will buy it.

BTW, the Icom IC-T70 is a rugged little radio and is the competitor to the FT-60. It's worth looking at before you get the VX-3. I did a review...

I'm sorry to hear it took a dive, but before all you give up try doing a hard reset to clear everything out. It may help, because it sometimes works on vx-5r's when they take a ride.

That's about $40 less than most retailers, so it seems like a reasonable price if it's truly mint.
