You asked a question and you got answers. If you are not prepared for comments that may differ from your opinion then don't ask or at least don't cry when the answers are not what you want to hear.

I know someone who purchased both the VHF & UHF versions of this exact model on ebay. It has been a while since I played with them but what I remember is they have some strange characteristic like no DTMF tones despite having a key pad. The SMA antenna connector is the wrong gender, the radio body had the gender usually found on the antenna of most main stream radios making after market antennas unusable. I am sure there were many other strange characteristic of this poorly designed radio that I never got to discover.

I recall my friend went to help out some boy scouts with a mountain top activity where they flash other mountain tops with mirrors and use ham radio to coordinate the activity. When he got to the top of the mountain he found his radio wouldn't transmit for some reason that he couldn't remedy. The radio worked before and after the activity but not in the heat of the moment when he needed to rely on it.

In conclusion my opinion is for about twice the price you can get a decent radio from one of the big 3 radio manufactures that will be far more reliable and functional. I know it is about $50 more but that $50 will be worth the frustration it will save you, some piece of mind knowing you can rely on your gear, and the ability to easily find accessories for it.

thanks this is what i wanted to know.

I have a Wouxun KG-UVD1P here and for $105 it is a great value. It's a dual band, they have 2m/440 and 2m/220 as options. it is not a true dual VFO like the VX7R though, more of a dual watch A/B where you can monitor two fixed frequencies, or scan on one and monitor a single on the other.

Has some quirks as mentioned, female SMA connector, but you can simply buy antennas for it or an adapter if needed. I have one to BNC that I use now.

The performance of the Wouxun has been perfect, no issues, works great. Much better on high power use for rag chew than my VX7R can do by a mile, it barely gets warm.

For $105 it comes with

radio
battery
stand up charger
car charger
headset/mic (this is junk)
programming software is free

I added for $18
1700mAh battery

$9
Programming cable

$22
speaker mic, that has louder/better audio than any of my other ham speaker mics, built more solidly too

A Motorola it is not, but it is a nice piece otherwise, totally a good value for the money.

I don't know much about the Quanxeng radios, the Puxing radios have a similar rep to the Wouxun from local feedback. There are probably a good 50 Wouxuns in use on my local 440 link system and no problems aside from user error so far over the year they've been around.

Wouxon - good
Puxing - good
Feidaxin - damn good

Quansheng - crap

The issue of the backwards antenna connector mentioned earlier, it's common among chinese h/t's, not a big deal go visit "George" and he'll take care of you.
