Cobra 29 Weird Power Issue

I have a Cobra 29 NWWXST that has a strange power issue. Once in a while, the darn thing will cut on by itself for about a few seconds and start make this ear-screeching squeal, then shut off. It only does it on occasion.

If it helps, it has been tuned (was that way when I got it). It is hooked directly to the battery. It has a Wilson 1000 mag mount antenna. Not sure of my exact SWR off top of my head, but I know it reads low on channels 1, 20 and 40 (I know it is less than 1.5, maybe lower, but not sure).

Thanks in advance.

From Cobra`s Site:

Emergency Weather Alert:
Alerts you if threatening weather is nearby with an alert tone even when CB is turned off

Have alook in the Manual for more info....

No weather alert feature, just the weather channels.

One time, it did it for about 1-2 seconds. Today it lasted for about 5 seconds.

I stand corrected. I checked the Cobra website, and it does have the weather alert feature.

If this is the case, why would it be shorter one time than the other? Also, why would it sound like bad feedback coming from a sound stage?

Check the fuse socket, sounds like a bad connection or intermittent.

The reason it could be longer or shorter is the location from your radio to the weather TX station and maybe you only caught part of the alert; so most likely it is the weather either doing a test or there is sever weather in your area. Some WX stations are much stronger to your location and spurious. I don't think there is a problem with your radio.
