I have several different radios..

Uniden Grant 40's XL and LT...great for mobile, solid all around radios.

Connex 4800DXL...smokes on AM. ok on SSB.

President HR2600 chipswitched and tuned by Doc's...Bad AZZ Radio AM and SSB

President Lincoln Excellent SSB tuned by 1 Stop .

I use the 4800DXL and the Lincoln as bases.

Uniden 510 on the golf cart LOL.

The HR2600 I am currently using and have been off and on for almost two years is without a doubt the loudest cleanest radio I have owned on AM and Sideband. It was done up by Doc @ Doc's Electronics in NY. It's got the big final and all Doc's goodies. It also has great ears. I've tried a bunch of radios in the house and nothing compares to the 2600 done by Doc. Oh ya, no mike I've tried on this radio sounds as sweet and has as much booming audiooooooooooooo as the Turner+3.

Good luck, Hossless

Interesting thing that we came across is the audio from the Top Gun Modulator is very dirty. If you put these on a Spectrum Analzyer or HP Service Monitor it shows that some of the watts are out of freq other than that they are good rigs.

Bobby, the older 148GTL, Uniden Grant XL, Grant LT, or if you can't find those a Texas Ranger TR-296. Try to find one that hasn't been ripped apart, extra channels put in with crystals, NPC crap, volting the final, and several other butcher mods. The receiver is far superior to anything else out there at the moment, it can easily be modified for a mosfet, or gasfet front end, and IF stages, and the VCO / PLL frequency drift just plain doesn't exist when you compare it to a Galaxy, or Magnum. (RF limited) The RCI 2950 DX is a decent radio, they have made several receiver changes, although they still have some cost cutting stratagies that they are using.

RR tuned Delta Force on AM....pretty damn good on SSB too!

Doc's Tuned HR2600 on SSB....but pretty damn good on AM!
