imax 2000 with maco gpk kit or homebrew

has anyone tried this or like this picture!

That doesn't look like an Imax to me. It looks more like a Hygain type mult-element vertical. Maybe you are just referring to the Maco GPK.

No I have not tried one. What size mast does it fit and does it come with radials? If so, how long are they?

this is more like a reference i have a imax 20 feet off my chimney with two sections of 10 ft mast and no ground.in the back yard i have a spare maco 5/8 with a hub and 4-10ft ground planes.i was thinking of setting the hub at the bottom by the feedline and i was not sure about whether i should isolate the antenna from the mast or not. thanks for those links booty i already read through all of those and nothing seems quite clear.i found a couple of posts on the net about people who have done this, one guy claimed he modified the bracket on the bottom and put 4 ground planes just under the tuning rings.the other guy with that picture claimed the same only he mounted them at the bottom by the feed like the picture.

I would just mount it on the masting directly below the antenna feedpoint. Otherwise, the IMAX will just use the masting for the ground plane. That is the way I have mine set up - BTW - works fine and has a low SWR to boot...(y)

I misspoke, thinking the image had anything at all specific to do with the question.

i auctually thought about doing this exact same thing. if this is yours
please keep me updated
thats not mine hotrod but this one is!this is the end result.top section 102 stainless making the radiator 23 feet and the overall antenna 24 1/2 feet.the maco ground planes are stretched out to 104 inches each, that was stretching.as for the match it was not affected at all.i dont have an antenna analyzer or tuner so i am going to have to go by ears and reports.ears may have gotten a little better or might have just reduced noise a little not to sure yet.i did get one report so far at 55 miles that said he usually has no s units on me but had 1-2 on me last night.

hows those mounted?did ya mount it on antenna just below
the tuning rings.or on the mast itself?

Hey Guys, I am no antenna expert but a ground plane ( Counterpoise ) kit on this type of antenna in my opinion is snake oil. It will not make a difference since this antenna has its own matching device. Maybe it makes the antenna look better ( cosmetic Value ) but will not increase efficiency. I would like some feedback.
