I have Galaxy DX959 radios mounted in both my vehicles and one in my home that I use as a base station. I can hear locals just fine and most of them hit me with between 2-6 pounds. Every night around 10pm a guy comes on that uses an amplifier that usually registers around +40dB and sometimes has pegged the needle, which is +60dB on the 959's meter.

I am wondering if this guys strong signal is damaging my radios since his signal redlines the signal meter. I haven't noticed any negative effects, but I want to make sure. I don't know as much about radios as I'd like, but I'm learning all the time.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

I have been turning down the RF Gain but when I do I'm not able to hear most of the other people. His signal is EXTREMELY clear. In fact, it's literally like listening to someone on a cell phone. When he keys his mic ALL other noise is gone. I really don't like this guy because he can talk over everyone in my area. There have been several people that have said something to him about his illegal amplifier, but he doesn't seem to care. He only talks on ch19 and mainly harrasses truckers so pretty much everyone in my area goes to ch22 whenever he starts talking.

I think Congress should do away with the FCC, so contacting them is something I simply would not do unless he was damaging my equipment. Since it seems he isn't, I'm happy switching to ch22 whenever he comes on.

Thank you all for such a fast response. I only found this site recently and have learned more in a few weeks than I have in a couple of years talking to people locally.
