New To Cb's Help me out

if that radio has a external speaker jack plug one in it with the speaker on the passenger seat or floor and see if it still does it .

twas meant as a joke .
id think if the connectors are attaching to the 239 on the radio that it has 259's on the coax .
now , if those connectors are attached properly and the coax is in good condition is always something to double and triple check when trouble shooting a system .

Ill try that this afternoon.
One thing i noticed was that it only has this beep problem sometimes. I wasnt able to test it with another radio to pick up my tx, but i can hear it through my speaker. Some times its just a short beep when i key the mic, some times it beeps for as long as i key the mic.
I tried getting a radio check on a few diff channels, but got no responders.

So long as it is the stock Cobra mic, or another mic wired specifically for Cobra - that won't be the problem.

BTW - Be SURE the antenna is wired up correctly!

So, im confused. First it seemd like you were suggesting it was the mic. But your last comment suggested it probably isnt the mic. Do i have that understood correctly? (I used a stock mic from my neighbors Cobra 19 IV)

For my antenna, i have the antenna insulated, and the threaded part of the coax cable is grounded.

ps I bought that SWR meter, and it should be here next week.

BTW, thanks for helping me out people. I probably would of burnt my radio out by now and bought a new radio, then i probably would of burnt that one out too, or some stupid shananagins.

What I'm suggesting, is that you leave no stone unturned.
You are new to radio and a lot of 'ropes need to be learned'. Take it in stride; but take it in. It will pay large benefits now and in the future to keep the pace that you have done so far.

I would also try another radio in your vehicle. This will help to discover if there is a problem with your radio - or the way you have it set up. Learning to troubleshoot now will also go a long way later!

im still suspecting proximity of the mic to the radio since they are right on top of each other . with the radio on the headliner being such a small vehicle when you key the mic its only a foot away . if you dont have a external speaker or a mic with a adjustable output keying the mic outside of the open window and see if it still beeps . if it still beeps then im way off track .

even if you get the beep out that radio is still not gonna be a talker , but it should still work for short distances .

I'm with Booty on this one. Feedback is callin' all his friends to come and bungee jump with him into that mic whenever it gets keyed down.

Classic setup for feedback. With the roof of that bug acting like a large parabolic reflector feedback is a foregone conclusion.

Been there. Done that.

Ted

OK, so i have narrowed it down a little more. It seems like it only does that beep thing when the radio has been on for more then 1 min or so. The radio works until it "warms" up and then it stops working and starts beeping when ever keyed.
But of course, this it still testing using my neighbors radio to pick up my tx. I havent been able to find any one around me with a cb that i can test with. And despite me calling for a radio check on the air, i am not getting any responses.

Pics of my base as requested.
