I have installed my S9-175 in my pick up and am experiencing a very minor burn from my RK 56 and ST 65 mics, The antenna (102 whip) is on a very well grounded mount bolted through to the frame using two of the the factory box bolts, Box is bonded to the frame on all 4 corners as is the exhaust in 3 places. SWR is 1.2 on 1 and just moves the needle on the Vanco enough to say it moved but not enough for a reading on 40. I have upgraded the coax from pro trucker RG8XX to Tram low loss double shielded and that helped a little. Radio is wired with 4 AWG directly to POS and NEG of the battery. I'm out of ideas and need help. Anything over 3/4 power and the burn really starts to get noticeable:eek: Any ideas?

Thanks
Tim

Hows that burning working out for ya?? LMAO!! P!$$es you off everytime it happens dont it!!?? Run an extra ground off the radio or use one of those lightning arrestor PL259 with the ground screw terminal for an extra ground wire hookup thats what I did the second time it happen.

Can you say CMC?

Get rid of it and you'll get rid of your problem.

It could be CMC's or something as simple as the center lead of his coax is making a poor connection.

Bought some cheap mini 8x once and had the same identical issue well as my investigations turned out to be just that, cheap ass coax that would not carry the RF current and burn the center lead at the PL-259 internally.

Sounds like textbook insufficient rf ground. RF ground runs should be VERY short.......12" or less to have any real benefit.

Maybe what you call a "box" is whats known elsewhere as a pick-up "bed".

You should also try a strap between cabin and bed/box.
Often such vehicles have cabin and bed on rubber mounts, and they only have minimal DC connection between them. And for 27MHz, its like no connection.

:laugh:That thread was made over five months ago concerning a squeal in my amp and RF burn. Custom CB Radios Fourm • View topic - WTH Texas star? running a short ground from the amp to the floor fixed the squeal and minimized the burn. I have since sold the amp and have yet to find a remedy to the stray RF. I now have more information and possible remedies. Thanks guys for the information! I will keep trying untill I find the cause and kill it.:whistle::whistle:;)

Edit. I see you posted a month ago in that thread, Thanks. I have already tried those ideas with little help to my problem. On the bright side, once we do find this gremlin I will have a system that is in 100% working order as most things I try seem to show improvement and do alleviate the problem..
