Palomar Skipper 300 TX Problem

Hello Folks, I have a NOS Palomar Skipper 300 that runs the 8950 tubes which are brand new as well. The problem that I am having is when it is in the standby mode the radio transmits thru the amp and has wattage to the dummy load but when I switch to operate I get not wattage through the amp or radio even though the tubes are lit up. Does anyone have an idea what it could be? The relay does click when I key and unkey but it has no output. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, 313

First thing i think of is dirty/oxidized contacts on the relay maybe?
Even NOS it has been around a long time, and if it is like many of the old amps they had open relays.
Use all necessary high voltage precautions...... un plug...discharge caps..

The relay is in a closed plastic cover and I did use electronic cleaner after removing the top screw and let it dry out completely prior to retesting the unit. There is no oxidation or pitting on the contacts of the relay. Thanks for the suggestion. 313

if you know the tubes are good, then i would look at the big ceramic disc caps near the driver 8950 and the other three 8950's.

i believe they are 3300pF at about 2kv.
they get a lot of heat and are very old.

new electrolytics wouldnt hurt either.

My Palomar 300A did the same thing a few months back. It would cut out all receive on transmit and no pre amp. Luckily I had a spare relay board without the relays, but it had all of the rest of the resistors/transistors on it. The problem was one of the two little switching transistors on the board near the relays that control them. Mine were numer 2N2905A and were Motorolas so they looked like they had already been replaced. Changed them out and it has been working every since.

Oh my preamp relay isn’t working there is no game in the reception on the radio whatsoever. I don’t Palomar skipper 300. I hate to put any type of electronic contact cleaner in there I’m afraid of frying something is it OK to do that?
