Just picked up a mint condition uniden washington with the 8719 PLL. It has amazing recive but the modulation could be better. Every now and then it looses modulation completly and I think it's in the stock hand mic, I hope anyway. You can unkey, wiggle the cord and then it will come back. I have a 4 pin tuner +3 and was wondering what the wiring diagram would be to hook it up.

Ok I got it wired but the modulation still drops off some times and I know it's not the turner. I really hope its something simple beacause the radio is mint condition. I was the first person to pull the cover off. I was going to blow the dust out but it turns out their wasn't much, it had been stored in plastic. Does anyone have any ideas i'm crossing my fingers it isn't something bad.

Ok guys update on the washington. I was told by my uncle it was never tuned up but it turns out it was. The modulation limiter was clipped and it was dead keying 5 watts swinging 20 on am and 20 watts on ssb. I tuned it back to around 4 watts swinging to 15 on am and around 15-18 watts on ssb that should be about right correct? I dont have a modulation limiter to put back in now but i'm going to try to get one.

Now for the problem I get great reports when working, but every 10 minutes or so I key up to talk and I get no modulation unkey wait a minute and bam modulation again. It did it with the hand mike and I used the 5 pin plug off it to wire my turner. I accually had a problem a while back where the mic plug it's self was messed up, and it did the same exact thing but it seems odd to happen with this one. I got the turner +3 and hooked it up to my galaxy and the modulation was dropping off I put a new mic plug on it and have talked for months with no problems.

My question is do you think it's in the mike plug or could it be one of the caps or audio transformer. I know a lot of you have worked on washington's ,maybe someone can chime in with some ideas?

I would take apart the mic plug a re-touch each wire with some solder to ensure that isn't the problem.

If it happens after that; then I would suspect a component in the radio is changing value due to a change in temperature. Might need to see a shop if you don't want to track it down. Could get hairy.

BTW - do you hear a relay click in the radio? Is it an older Washington that has a relay? Might be a relay problem if you don't hear it kick in.

Just saying . . .

Ok I'm gonna redo the mic plug. It doesn't have the relay it's the new 3 button one. Hopefully that fixes it because their aren't any good shops around here.

Ok I tried the redoing the mic plug and it didn't help. I may try another mic or mic plug if I can get one off the locals. I would really like some other ideas I will do the repair work myself if can figure out what to check. Also a local has a radio I can probably get parts from. The radio is really mint condition it has one or two scratches and a hole in the case where a mic clip was mounted. So anyone have any ideas on what to check or what is causing the problem???
Please help it's driving me crazy:bdh:

Update on the washington. I have tried different mic plugs and rewiring several times with no luck. I don't think it's in the mic because I tried three different ones. Does anyone have any ideas the radio is just to nice not to use it, the receive is amazing and when working I have made several contacts on ssb. Maybe some of the caps are going bad or something along those lines????

I may see if I can dig my camera out tommorow, but it's never really been touched on the inside. The mod limiter is clipped which I plan to replace and the am power was turned up but that was it.
