Terrible static from plasma TV on my radio

I have a serious problem with getting rid of static (noise) from my big flat screen TV on my radio. My radio room is to the side of the TV about 14 feet away. It's bad on certain channels but then again it seems to roam through all channels my radio channels. It can hit up to 6db at times and when the wife is watching TV, I can't hear anything. My Saturn Turbo has good noise rejection but it can't reject this! Any help would be appreciated for what can be done to rid me of this noise beside shutting off the TV.

i had a similar problem with a jvc tube set .darn thing was like a transmitter.7db of noise in my receive from that tv .i dealt with it for years .we recently upgraded, sold the tv and no more problems .
probably your only choice is to lose the tv or move the radio farther from it .

Thanks for the reply! I can move but darn it won't be fun. TV is a big Sony flat screen that cost me big bucks and I'm sure it will out last than my pain for putting up with the noise.

Would wrapping of the coax around an 8" object (tight and no cross) do me any good? I read somewhere where this helps stop RF going out but not for anything coming in.

ouch i hate to say this
i had a large plasma and then one day i started picking up this nose and like you said it just filters thru the channels
then one day the noise stopped and so did the tv.
now i got a LCD and have no problems

maybe your is fixin to go out as well

These plasma sets should not be allowed to be marketed due to their emissions.

The best solution is to use lighter fluid.

FCC haters awaken.

Plasma shouldnt be allowed because its a power pig.

Its an RFI generator because it has thousands of wires runing thru the screen with hi-current hi-speed signals.

i have a panasonic 50 inch plasma about 7 feet from my rig and havnt had the first hint of any interference between them . they are totally affected by each other . my 1/4wgp would constantly frack with and frack up my laser mouse . my .64 affects nothing , havnt had the first little flicker on the mouse even with the amp on .

guess im lucky :) .

hope i didnt just jinx myself saying that :(..... .

I've heard that LCD screens would also make a lot of noise. I have two LCD screens right next to my radio gear. Nothing; no problemo. The only thing that offends - is the mouse on my computer.

I've heard of people complaining about RFI from plasma TV's from the day they hit the market. It's a very common problem.

If you ask me Plasma TV's have been on their way out since near day one and the rumor that LCD's do it to is just that. I would never buy one anyway, even if I didn't have a radio hobby. Hell I've seen rear projection TV's with better picture quality, even LCD's. They are overpriced pieces of technology that everyone thought would rule the market for years to come, boy were they wrong, LCD tech has surpassed Plasmas, long ago. Fact of the matter is the point of them were to get the full benefit from HD picture and not all of them were created equal, Ive seen some used on Satellite that looked horrible, blocky and pixelated. It's too bad that some Standard definition LCD's have horrible HD picture, with everything going that way you may as well spend more money to get a quality HD LCD TV to keep up with the coming times and try to avoid getting inferior models that could possibly cause RFI.

i had a v102..something flat screen from wal mart that did exact same thing
i tried every room in my house .EVEN the bathroom it still made noise in my recieve
so i sold it locally and picked up a used tv old style w/ the big back.now
not to get off topic i now have a emerson dvd player/recorder that does same thing
only gives me 5-7 sunits almost whipping my whole recieve any help on this?

nah it ant his only choice , they make a noise device that goes in line or make a balin , i have made a balin and use pvc pipe zip ties and coax and put it in the line works great , all so make sure your coax isn't touching ant thing on the tv
